Who are the exploration communities "leaders" just now?

I'm seeking the opinions of such notorieties before I decide on a way forward.

Really not as ominous as it sounds but before I go public I need some sensible opinions!

What a weird question.

of the two or three exploration communities i somehow feel part of, i have not seen one, where somebody understood him- or herself as leader.
what i do see is there are a bunch of people putting in a lot of work into rerssources - for exploration to thrive . some here on the forums, some with 3rd party sides.
and some group-explorations have a team of people responsible for various fields, and often one who had the idea and takes a few decisions.

it is weird question.

Well maybe I didn't phrase that very well.

"People whose opinions are well thought of in the exploration community."

"explorers who know what they're talking about"

That's who I'm after.

Is that OK?

i suggest you look at the stickies in this subforum beyond your own, and the ressources threads on the first two pages and go with that?

otherwise you could post whatever it is here, and look for reactions of people which opinions you value?

If you still know whats happening and what youre talking about you aint been out exploring long enough. Catch 22 Im afraid ;)

Canonn may be a good source of knowledge, or EDSM Expeditions page, depends what you need to know and 'what theyre talking about means'? Build, POIs, NSPs etc?

this is the kind of leadership our community is afterwards, and we therefore look at you as one of our leaders. i tend to listen to too few opinions, i fail to ignore enough, and i usually find out, what does not work for me. your leadership is asking much, challenging my sloppy and all wrong kind of exploring, and helps me to give my very best!

Good idea.

I already sounded out ian666, so this is the issue.

As you know I "curate" the SagA* visitors club thread. I hadn't really considered this until just now but a recent visitor posted that they'd hitched a lift 1/2 way on a carrier. Which to me defeats the purpose of the list entirely.

I don't want to close the list but I'm buggered if I'm keeping up a list for tourists catching a lift 20kly!

So unless there's any kind of way to work around this I'm in a bit of a pickle. I like this list.

My head says close the list, my heart says keep it open.

I have just thought that adding way points could be a thing or a jumps before and after leaving screengrab...

The exploration community has never had any 'leaders'. It'd be like herding cats ;)

But if you're looking for ideas or advice for something exploration related, then Fleetcomm is probably the best place. Its the oldest and largest exploration community in Elite.

For expeditions then your best bet would be the Distant Worlds organisers server since they created the biggest expeditions (and events as whole) in this game. I don't have a link to it but I think its linked on the distant worlds channel on fleetcomm.

For Carrier exploration? Maybe the DSSA are the guys to talk to?

There's also the Galactic Mapping team. The GMP is the most well known and oldest project for exploration in Elite. Thread is pinned in this forum.

Nah - the true story that film is based upon was an incident in Euro Truck Simulator where I snitched on a guy running packages up the A1 when he was contracted to take the A68. Johnson did a pretty good job of representing the whole sorry scenario on screen, though I'm still waiting for my royalties.
