Who are the pirates??

Quick question - In online open play, when I'm supercruising and get an interdiction, who are the ships controlled by? Are they human players, npc's or a mixture? Is there a way of telling the difference?

I'm only a few days in so I just run away and get back to cruising as fast as I can!

Thanks

At the moment I don't think it's possible for players to interdict other players, so they're all NPCs. Also, you can identify players at the moment as they have hollow icons on your sensor scope (though eventually this will not be reliable when they introduce the transponder on/off switch).

You can easily tell if a target is player controlled or not. Solid contacts on your scanner are AI controlled ships. Hollow contacts are player controlled ships. If they are rectangular they have their weapons stowed, if they are triangular they have their hardpoints deployed.

Another way to distinguish AI form player controlled ships is the name. After you scanned them each CMDR is a player controlled ship, each other name is an AI controlled ship.

Also, right now players can see other players in SC, but there is yet to be the equipment and mechanic implemented for player forced interdictions. So all interdictions right now are AI controlled.
