Who came first?

Fleet carriers.

One per instance.

Who gets to park theirs at Dead Jimmy’s Bar and Grill?

Oh? They’re not visible unless you’ve been invited by their owners?

Uh - I have these two friends see, and they’re down in the mines right now. . .

So, uh?

As I understand it everyone can park their FC at any system but they'll all exist in different instances.

If two players have been granted access to two different FCs then they can't access both. The RNGesus will decide which instance you appear in and hence which FC you see and can dock with.

There's a whole thread of 60+ pages devoted to this over here if you want to read through it: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/gamescom-reveals-fleet-carrier-details.520110/

I realise that's quite a chunk of posts to get through so I'll be happy to answer anything I can if you want to ask without having to work through them all.

This is gonna be such a mess, I so hope fd can work around the myriad niche issues they're going to have with the way this game does instancing, and hosting our friends (and potentially non friends) in our own stations (effectively) and not only that but have them move with or without the consent of those hosted. 500ly.

I understood the 1 carrier per instance, but why they would be in the same spot so that would even be an issue I don't know.

So I'm going to hope that this is a misunderstanding borne from intentionally vague information.

Edit: And upon reviewing the OP and QA in the announcement thread I didn't even see the 1 per instance thing. So maybe I'm dreaming that up as well.

Uh, when I said "I have two friends who are in the mines now" - let me rephrase that.

"I am a mid-ranked member of a large, well established player group with dozens of active members and tens of hundreds of historical members.
We have a demonstrated capacity to grind, and serious and committed senior players, of high rank and wealth."

I'm going to have docking permission on literally dozens of Fleet Carriers.

AEDC Officers are going to be moving their Fleet Carriers to wherever they are needed operationally for our BGS projects.

So that does mean that we're going to be some number of FCs in a system.

And Dead Jimmy's? - every man and their dog will park an FC there. And they're not all anti-social. Fuel Rats tend to have lots of buddies too.

You're telling me RNGJesus says which one will show up?
Really?

No-one really knows- I doubt FD do in practice going by potential numbers.

I guess:

Each system has a set limit of FC POI's. I expect it to be something like instancing limits on ships so this will be about 16-32 POI locations. I imagine FD are thinking you can't be members of any more groups than that, so if you pop into a system you should be OK.

If this is the case, I'm also hoping that FC POI sites can be filtered in and out.

A side question would then be- how many POI sites can a system have? Is it infinite, or is it like SC ship spawns- will having more FC POIs lead to less USS signals for example.

Perhaps each FC will be its own Signal Source in a system. You pick a system and planet and when you arrive you become a Signal Source at a spot close to that planet. I don't imagine that you'll actually be able to choose to park it at a station, installation or any other exact spot in space.

There are Thargoid infested systems that contain huge numbers of Signal Sources but there may be some upper limit.

Hopefully FD have a robust system and that the underpinning network can cope.

The first thing people will do is cluster them in popular systems to see what happens.....and as demonstrated before, without a beta it gets interesting.

Funny thing is, FDev are, presumably, testing all this stuff on their LAN and it's probably working pretty well.

And then, within a week of launch, a thousand maniacs will all be trying to park their Carriers together is SD (or whatever) and then the real fun will start. 😧

Dav will save us! :)

My take is you will only see carriers as a signal sources from supercruise. So the carrier does not exist until you jump into that instance. Which means you can't fly from a station to a carrier in normal space as you have not created an instance.

Like with the other billion threads.. We don't know for sure.

My take on it, we can jump our carriers into a system via a schedule through the galmap. We will be able to select a body to jump to (as opposed to witch-spacing to a primary star and Supercruising to a body) Coordinates will be random around the body (space is big) The Support ship will have limited movement from the carrier's location (near to a planets rings or station etc etc) kind of like a bridge between our standard ships and the carrier.

What the carrier can't do: Slide out of warp into another instance, for example, a station, another instance with a carrier, any POI in-game.

The carrier occupies its own small region of this vast galaxy, a POI for its location will be available depending on the CMDR choosing a beacon to be available to everyone, or they choose certain cmdrs to know the location.

So, you can't park at Jimmy's bar and grill, you can park at the same body the bar and grill is orbiting, CMDRS are free to SC to any carrier in orbit, as long as they have access to that carrier's location.

We'll know soon enough.
