Who else agrees? First Footfall should be something more?

I say, we pick a flag…to represent the individual, their super power, or player faction. Personally? I’d roll with Aryssa’s flag, since I like role playing for the empire. Plant that baby, somewhere memorable. It could be a real flag, it could be a holographic one…a laser beacon that shines into space, or contain both functionalities, for other passerby’s to come visit…

What would a first footfall flag look like in the future anyway? Probably the above: a solar powered, holographic flag with a laser that beams into space lol …Or? A shark with a freakin laser beam strapped to its head…something.

Exactly. I’d say let the player decide where it’s planted. For instance, at the top of a mountain peak, where craft cannot land or access. But if they did this implementation, they could run some code where a generic player flag is placed where all first footfall took place, and/ or a random location on the body.

Doesn’t No Man’s Sky have a similar thing now? Some people might place a beacon, and I think people could leave messages as well, if I recall. And there are 250+ galaxies in that game.

And the chances of anyone actually ever seeing it?

So to explore i would need Cargo space too , either to carry these flags , or the little Holo matrix box thingy to 3d the map.

I cross over other commander systems all the time… Even way out in Odin’s Hold, where I am now. Sure, much if it may be neutron systems, nebulae or other black hole hunters, such as myself. It’s more of a novel thing anyway.

It would be neat if it had further integration as well, like flipping on a user mode data for “first footfall” bodies you’ve landed on. This might help you “refind” that last planet you want to go back to. It happens. This prevents the need to have bookmark clutter for all the things you want to come back to.

Obviously, to prevent a No Man’s Sky situation, you can’t allow everyone to place one on the same body. Just the initial flag. I seem to recall coming across a frame rate breaking scenario in No Man’s Sky where there are just too many damn player beacons or communication bubbles.

I like the idea of there being some kind of flag, marker or other indicator at the exact location where the first footfall occurred. Make it a PoI that shows up after surface scanning a planet, so that others can find it.

Lol do we need have cargo for probes? Nah…we don’t need to go that crazy. We don’t need to treat them like limpets, where one limpet is automatically one ton, even though the limpet is clearly half the size of a person.

Apart from that, there's probably enough room in the bag you carry all your materials in.
(Yet not enough room on your personal data card to hold all your exploration discoveries.)

Flags would be cool. Not much needed, just a set of models for flags. And then either place them at the same predetermined coordinates for each planet, a random set or where the player actually landed. Not really much data to store there...
I have enough trouble finding rare bios on a surface, let alone a single flag. That would be like finding a needle in a haystack. What would be the point of placing a flag at a predetermined coordinate? How many people would visit it? By definition you are the only one to have visited the planet/moon so far. The likelihood of someone else doing the same would be small, even rarer that they would land at exactly the coordinate where the flag is. Out in the black, every body I land on is a first footfall. The flag is there, but it is in the body details panel on the system map and not physically on the ground.

I guess if it spawned a permanent POI beacon that could be scanned, anyone visiting would see it upon using the surface scanner or something? It's something that sounds cool and I'd welcome it honestly, but it's also not doing much more than what you see in the system map considering what the coding required to make it work. For me, it would be a nice to have after some other things are done first IMO. It would also be made redundant if potential base-building came with those existing as a permanent POI.

If you really explore, first footfall is everywhere, so whatever would make it any longer than it is would pose the risk of becoming quite annoying.

OOOH, OOOOH, OOOOH, Lets add more system map clutter on top of the Fleet carrier mess, And then whine that you can't filter out each individual component at a single button press..
