who else hopes/plans for a mis-jump?

Sometimes I did this in F:FE. I would get that wanderlust "itch".. load up my Asp for long term isolation, And force a mis-jump (forgot the details on how to do that on purpose).

This would inevitably drop me in some distant part of the Galaxy, and I would spend the next few weeks (!) exploring my way back to civilization.

I wonder if/how this would be implemented in Elite: Dangerous? Its kind of a kamikaze and self destructive practice, I know, But to me that sounds like a truly epic "lost in spaaaace" adventure and journey.

But with jumps to unplotted stars being an exploration effort apparently requiring consumable probes (?), I wonder if it would be a little too self dooming?

So who else feels that "whats out there?" urge, and would like to do this as well?

Who thinks it wont be possible in the new game, and why?

Who knows how Jump malfunctions, Misjump glitches, or emergency Blind Jumps will be implemented?

Mis jumps was one of my favourite feats of FFE and I sure hope they will make a grand come back in ED! :)

That was how I found that "lost colony" group of inhabited stars.. out in the middle of nowhere. It was like they misjumped too, only they brought a starbase assembler with them.

That was my most awe inspiring moment of F:FE. that the procedurally generated galaxy had some easter eggs scattered about out there. And it made the galaxy seem really, REALLY big at that moment.

*sigh* I wanna do it (misjump) NAO!!!!

I think there would have to be a balance between the adventure of going somewhere unintended vs. the problems that would arise from that. Yes, the more hard core of us love this idea, but a lot of players wouldn't. Some stuff like this works for single players games but can be an issue for multiplayer ones, where the focus is often more what kind of setback it was, and not the challenge and adventure that was presented.

Not saying there shouldn't be breakdowns or weird stuff happening, but I also don't think that someone new to the game shouldn't be thrown out to the wolves, as it might leave a bad taste. Just because we can do something doesn't mean it should be in the game.

I'm in two minds on this one.

On the one hand it's an interesting mechanic, but on the other it would depend entirely how it was implemented. In the original Elite a mis-jump meant you were jumped by the Thargoids and couldn't move until you dealt with them.

In FE2 if you were unlucky you could end up with a cargo hold full of scrap metal instead of an engine and hundred of light years off course and with no way to get home. If players came to your aid it might work, but if they decided you'd make a better slave/carbonite ornament it might not be much fun especially for newcomers.
