Newcomer / Intro Who gets kill credit?

How does the game register credit for a kill? Is it the killing blow? Is it some percentage damage done? Can more than one person get credit if both did some percentage of the damage?

I was at a nav beacon with several other ships all firing at the same targets. In my beginner sidewinder I don't suppose I was doing most of the damage, but I was certainly hitting it a lot. I didn't get any credit for any of the kills. How is credit for a kill handled?

What I've gathered in my noobish short attempts at bounty hunting: - If the feds / other players are attacking for a long time and you get in in the last few seconds, not landing the killing blow, you get nothing. Other sources have mentioned a "at least 10 seconds before the AI destroys it to get in" rule. - Between players: killing blow seems to take the money. - Between AI and you: Shield damage doesn't count. Just dropping a few hits on a target (say 50% of shields) and moving to another target gets you nothing. Doing some hull damage does seem to help, even if the AI lands the killing blow and no other players are around. I got a bounty of a scanned target for getting the wanted guy from 92 to 60% health before being attacked by something else.

Last shot that destroys the target gets the credit, I think.
Yeah, you and unicron appear to be right. I've been collecting bounties at nav beacons but never getting credit. One was particularly bad since I fought a guy solo for several minutes, then had him to under 5% and someone else got the kill. My beginner sidewinder just doesn't kill very fast. Anyway, I resorted to solo mode.

Well it seems I'm not entirely right: Found a Anaconda with a 150,910 cr bounty. That is actually MORE than I've got in the bank. There was one NPC freelance bounty hunter and a system auth vessel. Both started attacking, so I joined in with my 300k cr Viper. After 3 min, the Auth Vessel was taken down, leading to a responce Auth Anaconda showing up. Nice. 20 minutes later, the Anaconda goes down from 9% to 0 instantly, no other players, no credits for me :-0

I thought this was reworked in a previous patch. It used to be last shot gets credit, now I believe it is whoever does the most damage.

Yeah, I thought I read something along the lines of 'most damage in the x seconds before destruction', but I just skimmed the last few patch notes and didn't find it.

Personal experience has been both “killshot and no bounty“ and “no killshot and bounty“ in recent engagements, so I believe it's correct.

I'm pretty sure you're right as I used to get nothing all the time then after the patch I've never missed a bounty (maybe one? I can't remember). I found it a lot more forgiving anyway.

I'm fairly confident it isn't "Most damage" either...
I've had another cmdr "steal" a kill I had initiated (on an Eagle, so yeah), that I'd gotten down to 23% in one run. His up close 4 beam laser salvo had then taken the kill. No bounty for me. (just 5k, but meh...)

On the Anaconda engagement, I probably managed 3x shields down (vs 0x npc) - not that it matters. And I'd say I probably did 60% of all hull damage? Even when there are 3 NPC's attacking, there is much less continuous fire from them than from a player... I just caused the hull to go from 23% to 9% before my strafe ended. The Authority Anaconda probably hit the wanted Anaconda with a plasma shot or something heavy like that? Pretty sure it was not ramming it... Form 9% to 0 in one split second, no cmdrs in the area at that time. (reactor was still at 15%)
This was today.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=121828 Yes, I know, I cry too much about this, but I just enjoy dogfighting but am a bit dismayed at how much effort it is to make some cash through it... Spend over 4 hours trying to find a 140k cr assassination target in just one possible system without as much as a hint... Nothing here that suggests they changed it?

I think its most damage in the last few seconds. If that's right then in your scenario the guy who got the kill shot got the credit. It means if you do 51% of the damage and fly away you cant still claim the kill. I've lost out on a few of these as well.

As far as I can tell, credit is given to the last CMDR who did damage. These seems to be timer on this - If you don't deal damage within this time before the target is killed, you don't get credit.

Mmm.. Alright, well off to do more testing I guess?

In my situation there were not Cmdrs around, other than me, so that'd make me the last one...

In both the kill-steal situation and the long long fight, I did damage within the last 10 seconds they blown up... Probably even less than that.

Before last patch, I got in on a Auth battle (the other cmdr was killed) against a Phython about 20 seconds before it was over, no shields 30% hull, and I did get credits there for doing 20% damage, not being last.
