who invented [JETTISION ALL CARGO]?

Made my evening, worth a meme or some historical record at least :D

Please don't consiter that I'm trying to troll here or post in spite. I don't. I'm sorry that OP lost his gold and got fined but little things like that makes Elite truly Dangerous. I like the challenge, I like feel of risk. And while we can respawn indefinitely - such little things keep making game interesting. Well, at least for me. I hope OP cool down over time and get over it. It's just a game. And a good one.

Yeah, it's a dangerous command. When I got my x52 and started sorting out the key-bindings for it I bound jettison all to pinky switch plus T6 so it would be a two hand operation.
Then later the cable connecting thruster and stick came lose and gave all these weird commands. Silent running on, off on, off switched off modules and all other strange things.
When I had sorted that out and fastened the cable again I noticed the cargo hold was empty and there was about 40 tons of rare goods floating in space behind me
Now the cable is glued in place and jettison all isn't mapped any more.

Not to sound unfeeling, but from my job doing support, I see this kind of thing time and again. Such things can easily be avoided by properly binding or unbinding, a function from a keystroke.

95% of computer problems are user created issues.

Ive jettisoned by mistake once or twice. I moved to an x55 controller. Bound jettison to one of the harder to reach switches on the throttle control. No more problems.

Jettison could be useful.. but rarely. Some examples of when.. if you are in a huge ship and are in a doomed situation, and get jumped by a CMDR pirate. Humans are more likely to let you go and save the insurance loss if you dump cargo and leave. Another situation is if you are carrying illegal goods on a huge slow ship, get ganked by system security, choose to dump cargo, hope they clear out, then pick it all back up. I've never done that.. but figure it would work. The AI probably isn't smart enough to realize you dumped the cargo before they scan you. They will fine you for it if you are scanned and have it in the hold.

i lost 100 ton gold and recieved 15000cr fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think i just want to delete the game now ..:mad::mad:
dont want to play it in some weeks
edit: why f***ing no cross-check or some kind of alert before it? i was inside the station, just want to deploy my landing gear (insert) and accidentally put (end), maybe you will say i should cancel the key binding, then why are you inventing it?

hahahahahaahah

I also made that mistake in beta, and I was very mad.... :D

First thing first. Before you do anything else in E:_D.
Change the button mapped to jettison all cargo, just below the cargo scoop, to another button.
Mine is Shift+End.

Nothing like the pain of a self inflicted damage to sharpen the mind and learn something new or remember something obvious forever.
I do the same last month, don't know when... But departed with 128tn of gold in the cargo hold and arrived with 128 empty slots in the cargo hold..... So unbinded the s##ty key

I find it amusing that the dump chaff and shield cell binds are blank by default, yet "jetison all" is bound right next to the lights and cargo scoop. Sure dumping everything might be useful in some fringe cases, but let's be honest, what's going to be used more?

It's not justifiable in any sense to have it be bound next to landing gear except for the explicit reason to grief new or unaware players. The responses here indicate such.

"Haha learn to unbind your keys!" -It isn't the players fault that by default there is a key that will cost you 100k plus in fines and lost time spent scooping your cargo. The devs can fix this with a one line change, just change the part in the default bindings that says "End" key to "Unbound" and voila no more angry players making these posts.

"It's a part of Elite being dangerous!" - There's nothing dangerous about making a mess in a station. It just frustrates the player, and sets them back.

I don't see how anyone can defend this action being bound by default, when it causes the player as much frustration as it does.

Make it not bound by default. The new pilots are saved a ton of grief and shame, the elite pilots will be rebinding it anyways. Win-win for everyone so why not make it unbound by default?

lol. Couldnt you pick it all back up. Rule 1 put jettison all cargo button miles away from anything else, same as the boost button.

I learned on PB - Put "Jettison all cargo" on F11 or delete it. That function is useless. A pirate had to kill me or get killed but i never would drop any cargo for criminals, not even grain.

Must have been very early in beta; ever since I first tried, cargo jettisoned by yourself is not marked as stolen when you scoop it back up.

It was early beta but I wasn't sure if it would be marked as stolen or not so I just accepted the loss. I was still very cautious being a cash-poor newbie at the time and was more interested in getting away from a potential crime scene. I believe "nooooo, ruuuun!" were the thoughts in my head at the time :D

Apart from the odd isolated incident when you need to use one of the other rarely used switches in a hurry and you can't be sure you aren't going to dump everything.

"Ship scan detected" with a cargo full of priceless yet highly costly cargo if detected. Had to manually dump it because I, for one, have not accidentally found that button.

What gets me is (and not the quoted post), people complaining about something that they have full control over. If a keybinding is in a bad place, move it. Take responsibility for what you have control over.

I've played in Beta since August, and I've never once hit Jettison All, in fact, having only gone through the controls enough to change what I needed to, I never saw it there, and never changed it from the default setting, and never once accidentally hit it. It makes me wonder what people are doing to accidentally hit it.

I feel you pain. I fiddled with the keybindings, and put full speed ahead on the homekey, with full stop on end. Only what I actually did was put full speed in reverse on home... I did survive the ensuing pinball experience that was my next takeoff, but I wouldn't recomend it :)

It's good if your a smuggler that wants to avoid a fine or you get into a firefight and your cargo mass puts you past your optimal or maximum shield mass.
