Who is Dan Ham's Sister?

What was the station in Riedquat's name in the original?

Riedquat was a fun place to visit in the original game. Just making it to the station in one piece was an achievement.

What is Dan Ham?

So, the station: La Soeur du Dan Ham in Reidquat in the Old Worlds has been in the game for a long time.
In FFE it looked like this:

These days it's nicer.

And these are the classic old world systems

But I am struggling to find any lore, fiction, back story or sly reference that would fit with: "The Sister of Dan Ham".

It gets a mention in some of the Elite Dangerous books, as they are often set in The Old Worlds, but I haven't found anything that says: "This is the reference"
Reidquat is an anarchy system and has a long history of being a den of iniquity.

Alioth dot net has this to say about Reidquat and La Soeur du Dan Ham: http://alioth.net/ajn/Trading.html

At Riedquat, nothing at all is illegal. I've even accidentally fired my weapons in the vicinity of a space station, and I didn't even get the customary fine. This does mean you have to be wary at all times and quite accomplished in combat to succeed in this system. Traders there are often a fairly hard-nosed type, and are usually well armed. Haggling over the price is a past time the locals take great pleasure in - don't let them rip you off!

It's a good idea to get out of your ship after you dock at La Soeur du Dan Ham (who *is* Dan Ham anyway?) and visit either the Fighting or World's End pubs based at the station. The local brews are very good. Just remember the 8 hour bottle to throttle rule before you depart off into the void once more! Generally, the locals are friendly despite the anarchistic nature of the system. It's certainly a much nicer place to hang out than Veliaze where only the vicious survived (until the Veliaze crisis), and my home world of Nirvana in the Phekda system where several mob groups were and (still are) locked in permanent fighting. I think the locals are just too laid back to try and enforce any type of law and order in Reidquat system space - I've never met anyone from this system who bears any malice. The pirates all come from surrounding systems.

Other folks love Reidquat:

I pull up a bar stool at The Waterloo. Signal to the bar slave for a glass of their finest engine degreaser. I don’t make eye contact with the locals. Shady figures come and go, packages exchange hands. Someone starts disagreein’, they get a knife in the chest and a trip to the infirmary. This ain’t a place to bring the family. When you’re at a bar in Riedquat, so they say, you keep your head down and your laser under the table.
Some maps say this is a Federation system, others say it don’t belong to no-one. Truth is, it’s a long time since the real Feds paid a visit. 600 years of civil war, family against family, and the only law these folks know is the law of the gun. You wanna make it to the station in one piece? You better have some some big guns on that there ship o’ yours, and you better know how to use ‘em.
You gotta have a strong stomach to come here; they say a visit to Riedquat changes a man/woman/other. Once you’ve seen what they do to slaves here, you’ll never be the same again. And the smell… don’t get me started on the smell.
So why would anyone come here? Well, there’s a profit to be made, if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty. Easy money too: I saw an ad on the bulletin board looking for slaves, paying twice the normal price. Suckers are so busy shooting each other up they don’t even bother checking the market, where there’s plenty to go around! 'Course, you’d never catch me getting involved in a thing like that…
And it ain’t just slaves; they sell pretty much everything you can think of here. Stuff you can’t get nowhere else. Stuff that could get you into trouble.
If you’re looking to tool up, this ain’t the place. Folks don’t produce much hardware round these parts, so you better stop by some other system like Zaonce for your gadgets before paying a visit.
Verdict: If you’re looking for a different kind of trading, Riedquat’s the place. Just make sure you get your affairs in order before you go.

So I'm just trying to get the reference.

Space stations didn't have names in the original Elite. Since every system had just one star, just one planet and just one station, naming them was unnecessary.

Station names came into place in FE2, which dates from 1993. Universal Soldier, which premiered in 1992, starred JCVD, so the name being some kind of oblique sci-fi homage to JCVD cannot be discounted.

I’ve seen the proposal for JCVD [Jean Claude Van Damme for those in the cheap seats up the back] and,

I don’t buy it.

Unless you’ve got some “sister” context, it just doesn’t seem strong.

Somebody knows who she is.

There's some other places and stations not in game any more by now. For "obscure reasons", they for example removed the station "Cox ring"... it's a shame, considering how helpful some people found that one... :D ;)
