Title says "what", but the question says "who". Two different questions. Connery is naturally the only real Bond. When it comes to the movies, however, the competition is tougher - although I might still put "From Russia with Love" at the top.

That's enough Goldfinger, you've made your point.
Choose your next witticism wisely Mr. Bond, it may be your last.
Do you expect me to talk?
No Mr. Bond I expect you to die!

Brooke Bond for me...

Roger Moore was the one I grew up with and I'll always love Live and Let Die, but his films just got silly at the end.

But, Daniel Craig for me seems to be the closest to the Fleming Bond from the books.

Not seen the latest yet, but Skyfall was a fantastic film.

And I've sorted the title for you. :)

I never knew Gordon Brown (second left) played Bond!

(controversially I liked Timothy Dalton, I got the feeling he could actually act).

Was about to say the same, that the Craig bond seems the closest to the Bond that Fleming created i.e. a flawed character with a troubled past etc. etc. The Craig bond is much "grittier" than the previous Bonds - he has more integrity whereas I could never take the previous Bonds too seriously (though this was down to the filmmakers, not the actors).

Skyfall is my favourite Bond film. Casino Royale a close second (I've seen all except the Lazenby one).

He can, but better suited to Shakespeare than to Fleming me thinks :)

Nice one, have some rep!

I grew up with Moore but I definitely prefer Connery, he has the physique and the swagger and all his movies were made during that time period so they have that exotic look and feel to them.

I also thought that Timothy Dalton got a bad turn as Bond, I liked him and thought he was a good actor, but thought the writers for his movies were terrible.

That said, Daniel Craig is my second favorite now and I agree with an earlier post, his Bond is definitely the closest one to the books (which are really fun to read).

Note: I just watched "Specter" last night and really enjoyed it. :)

I saw one Craig Bond film. Casino Royale. It was really good with a lot of pretty well staged action sequences. But the more preposterous parts seemed to a large extent to simply be preposterous.

The Connery Bond films were equally silly, but his charm and humour somehow seemed to make it so entertaining, it hardly needed to be remotely realistic.

Timothy Dalton did gritty Bond before it was fashionable. I guess he didn't have the six-pack to pull it off.

David Niven is missing from the list.

100% legend in my books. one of my favourite actors and authors of all time.

But, Dalton did get a rough deal with his films. Brosnan was the last of the "old style" of Bond. I was really sad at Desmond Llewellyns last scene when he disappeared down looking up at Bond.

I was unsure that Craig could carry the role of until I saw Casino Royale.

Out of all the Bonds his has the most dangerous edge to the character.
