We've had this convo before, but just to say again,

We're into a 10 year plan now, and I'm already in the biggest ship, and not so far from my first elite. Other players are getting close to the top of ranks as well. For this game to broaden out, it needs more aims, even if those aims are aimless.

How about double elite, if you gain the same progress to elite again, and then triple elite. That should mean 'single' elite players have something to work for.

Just like medals are reduced to stripes on the chest of a military person, why not have awards for other things as well.

  • Elite Miner - the first thing that comes to mind, having done quite a bit myself.
  • Elite Smuggler - controversial?
  • Elite Courier - perhaps combining delivering packages and people
  • Elite Pirate - now there's a switch
  • Elite SRV driver - yes this seems silly, but I've travelled more than 1 Mega metre in my search for Yttrium, so by 1 light second distance I should/could get to elite. Considering there will be lots more SRV types in future coming, I think surface vehicle ranger is as important as space ranger, and the Mega metres will soon rack up!
Basically, in the very first kickstarter video, David said he wanted players to have free will to: Mine, Spy, Courier, Pirate, Trade, (drive?) - to elite level, so I want to earn my stripes! I WANT to be elite Miner, plus elite Assassin, Elite Scout, Elite Rover. Why not?

In a Nutshell: I want all of the stats categories to get their own rank! Otherwise why have them along-side those which do?

Ranks should be ranking between players. So only top 1% of players that made the most profit from trading would have elite rank. Ranks that mean something not ranks that you can only get eventually by just playing. Maybe reset ranks every month and it display rank you achieved in last month.

No thanks. That's no different to what we have now. Those who have the most time will rank up just the same. Except that it will be reset every month. Pointless.

The only competitive rank would be something like pilot pilot PVP combat. And it would be judged by number of kills, the relative ranks of the pilots you face and most importantly your kill to death ratio.

In fact, it could work just the same way ( but with figures scale down appropriately) as the current combat ranking, giving rank when you are victorious against PCs. Points given would be relative to relative rankings of the pilots. Although, I suppose that should be weighted based on ship used.

Why is it when someone accomplishes something in this game they sometimes turn around and want the bar set further for everyone?

I don't have all day and night to play this game like some people. If they think it's too easy to reach these ranks they need to try doing it with a full time job and life commitments, and I don't mean twitch streaming.

I voted "no change", but that's just because the changes suggested in this poll don't match the kinds of changes I'd personally prefer to see implemented.

The number of ranks is fine. I'd prefer keeping these ranks to be harder. I'm not talking "rank decay", I'm talking about demotions. You do "stupid stuff" related to the rank, you lose the rank. Go around blowing up Federal navy ships all the time? You lose Federal naval rank. Keep making a massive loss on your trade route? Lose trading rank. Keep getting blown up? Lose combat rank. These sort of changes might get rid of some of the "unrealistic" play styles and tactics some people employ (like letting yourself get blown up to clear a bounty, or deliberately running bad trade routes, making a loss to grind down a faction's influence).

The only rating that is needed at this moment in time is Piracy.

It was dangled in front of our noses during the KS/DDF era and FD did a 180 post release. Piracy needs legitimising and this is but the first step in doing so. As you're so keen on collecting badges and justifying your playtime I voted no - leave it as it is (as you didn't have a piracy option)

Voted no because I would like to see a change, but not what is listed. I would like to see a commander ranking based on each of the Elite ranks so you can see your position in the galaxy.

I agree the Alliance really needs a set of ranks, more permits, and more reason to help them. Plus I'd like to see a 4th Major Faction if possible.

I dont have all day and night to play this either. My limit is up to two hours per evening, so there isnt much you can do in that time - but at this rate I'll be triple elite by next year, and top rank for the feds, so there is little point playing it after that.

I dont want to make the current ranks harder so they will take 5 years to accomplish, that would be silly, as they already buffed the rank requirements in the last major update. I dont want to make Elite longer or harder. But perhaps x2 or x3 times Elite would provide a cluster of medals for each area of expertise rather than just the one, like purple heart, war medal, and long time service medal.

I certainly dont want Rank Decay, that would be like learning how to swim and someone taking away my swimming certificate. If I do something really stupid, like blowing away system security and the Wedding Barge is was protecting, then I'd prefer the result simply added to a Piracy Rank. The fines for smuggling/destroying friendlies/ and making small mistakes are so small its a joke, and are annoying as you have to leave the system, come back, pay the 1000cr fine, start shooting again.

As for smuggling, salvaging, busting open cargo hatches, rescuing hostages - I havent done any of those at all, perhaps there should be more incentive. While Mining on the other hand, thats a skill worth mastering. :)

I still think Driving vehicles needs a advanced Drivers Licence, and some reward for reaching 1Ls distance, but why not have driving events (like GTA driving school) to learn how to fly, roll, get out of situations, and earn skill points. With most Xbox 360 games, they award achievement tokens for every least bit of a thing. Why cant players aim to unlock an achievement if they fly 67,000 lys from Sol?, like a Deep Space medal?

I certainly dont think ranks need to be harder, and after the 2.1 update, I suspect they will be getting more difficult.

Ok this is the final bump of this thread, the results are pretty mixed. I suspect the casual players are fine with the ranks, while those who have beaten them may want more. Ah well, it was worth a try.

Miner is the only one I can really see being worth adding to the current game as Smuggler happily fits under trade, courier would happily fit under trade/exploration but may be good if they ever get around to adding passengers, pirate and SRV are fine under combat.

Ranking in the Alliance Defense Forces would be good, so would giving our piratical friends a way to achieve "Elite Pirate" but other than that no change.

Alliance ranks would be my first priority.

Some sort of smuggler/spy might be fun.
