Who turned off the quality

Hi, VR friends anybody finding the quality a bit Naf since 3.3 or is it me.
I have checked that Im full 0-255 colour settings, but it looks like im running limited 16-235, also nothing as changed in game settings. I know this new bright thing as been introduced but it seems as if someone turned up the contrast and dropped the quality, its no longer smooth.

Yep. Antialiasing and text legibility clearly took a big hit too. For me, the game looks like HMD quality turned down to 1.0 while I play at 1.25. Some text is barely legible at all now.

Opposite for me. Quality of text improved, lighting stunning. I'm happy.

Have you guys updated your drivers? 417.22 made a big improvement for me.

Same goes for me. Contrast and color vibrancy greatly improved. It may help to set your VR settings to low and then back to the desired setting. There might be a problem with the initialization, as i read in another thread. Maybe it does not apply for those players, who got their preferences transfered from 3.3 beta...

Thanks for the heads up, CMDRs! Will try the new NVIDIA driver now, current version is 417.35, was on 416.81. Here's hope! :D

I have had problems with the brightness impacting on the text but I am running a modified color mix. Listening to your comments (frank/Scotch) I will revert to standard and see what happens, maybe not until the weekend when I have some time. THX

I've been hugely impressed since the update. granted it coincided with updating to the latest Nvidia drivers for me so can't say where the improvement came but it's almost like an upgrade. Spent a good couple of hours in game last night exploring and it's just altogether a nicer place to be in VR (not that it wasn't nice before).

I am finding the visuals to be better with the new lighting system but have noticed a sort of haze that can make things a bit harder to read. I can’t put my finger on it but it’s a bit like when there is a bit smoke from over heating but it’s there most of the time..

I’m loving the dark sides of planets being properly dark now. Did my first dark landing and drive about last night and almost felt scared. Just need some weather now and it will be close to my dream of being like the landing from Alien :D

The driver thing definitely made things better, but the text is still a little washed out. Also reset everything to VR Low and then back to VR High, just to make sure. Hm. I think it doesn't get better than that.

Another issue might be that in VR, the game always seems to be a little 'vibrating' now. I can't really put my finger on it, and inside stations it can be ASW kicking in, but in space, I get the full 90fps with GPU load only at 70% or so, same in Hazres. Will have to verify with the Oculus Debug tool later, but for now, it seems the VR image is not as stable as it was before. Is it just me? Am I getting spacesick?

‘Vibrating’ is a good way of describing what’s happening with the system map for me now. When scrolling around the system map my FPS drops below 90 to around 70 and it looks like the writing is vibrating. Something wrong there as I could get 90 inside a station but not looking at the system map now. Mind you I’ve not docked since the update so perhaps things have changed. I don’t have problems landed on planets though so expect stations to still be ok.

Will look out for what you are seeing flying around.

UPDATE: I've had a proper chance to play and got back to the bubble and docked. OMG I'm blown away by this update. It's fantastic. The visual improvements make it feel so much more like I'm really flying a spaceship. When I docked the first time I was thinking it all looked a bit washed out and crappy until I hit the deck and realised it was smoke. I'm still getting the 'vibrating' on the system map but nowhere else. I'm not so solid at 90 docked now but volumetric smoke!!! :D

The only thing that I'm really not keen on is the way they implemented VR with the scanners, in particular with the surface scanner which in VR does not need anything more than can be fitted in the normal UI gap... I'd rather aim dumb probes with my ship.

Overall Loving it; 9/10 would be 12/10 if they had put a bit more effort in to making the scanner(s) work differently in VR. I've got a LEP but I'd pay lots if they put something in the store that made the VR implementation better for scanners!

Ansolute garbage performance and visuals since the update for me. I have a beastly PC with Titan Xp (latest drivers) and I’ve now had to dial everything way down to get things running smoothly.

I’ve been enjoying the game after a long break from it, so looks like I’m going to have to shelve it again until/if it gets fixed

I fixed my problems, it would appear that although the graphic settings looked the same they must not have been. I switched to VR low from custom then back to custom then had to change all the settings to my preferred set up and presto back to normal.

My PC is 12 GB Titan X Pascals x2 (two of these) and 48 cores, very fast PC, ultra fast, I too have noticed blur in the VR but the smooth factor is there. Nothing seemed to change in the way of performance for me and my PC is a lot faster maybe that's why. Im an unfair candidate when it comes to comparing lol.

Thank you im gonna try that and see if the visual changes.

Thanks for this, I thought the update had “optimised” the graphics into a blurry mess even though my settings were the same as pre-patch. Planet surfaces looked particularly bad, and the skybox looked worse to me.

After selecting a VR preset I’ve put my settings back to what they were and it’s like I’ve taken the smear of Vasaline off my eyeballs :) I think the anisotropic filtering setting was the main culprit.

No its not the driver.. the graphics have taken a hit since 3.3 dropped IMO. It's really noticeable. I think it's got something to do with the tinted skybox/adaptive lighting (based on other threads).

I'm running full ultra settings (with 8k textures) and it still looks cartoonish, washed out and blurry.

Trying to ignore the fall in graphics quality, but go to a planet surface with dim light and it's in my face. :(

I just started playing again after a few months of not having time and noticed the messed up graphics right away. Everything seems to have a faint white haze covering it. Landing on the dark side of a planet looks horrible, like I'm playing on an old monitor with poor contrast and the brightness cranked right up rather than a Rift. The planet isn't even close to being dark, it's just a murky medium grey.

Updating the NV graphics driver (I'm using a GTX1070) didn't help, nor did resetting the game graphics options. The only thing that helped somewhat was editing GraphicsConfiguration.xml to set PrototypeLightingBalancesEnabled to 0.
