They're called "black holes" for a reason.
Have you explored them all yet? Sometimes it just colors unexplored unlit planets black.

Random question -- seeing them turn white after you explored them immediately made me wonder: Does anyone know whether white holes exist in the game? I know theyre strickly theoretical and they try to strive for as much realism as possible, but seeing as how we have aliens (or at least their artefacts so far) in game, I imagine white holes arent a complete stretch...
