Who Wants a Race?

Just what the title says. It will not be in supercruise, but at an Orbis station so that the station can be used as an obstacle. Plans are to have volunteers (or people who are in a later race) get sidewinders to use as track markers. (should have powerful shields, hull hardeners, and good armor for surviving impacts just in case) The Orbis station is going to play a large role, as racers will have to fly through the spinning arms. (that will make it interesting) I would reccomend a Viper or Cobra, but any other ship will work. None are banned. (I may hold freighter races, and other such things just to see what happens) I am thinking about a tournament structure, where races will start with small winning prizes, such as 5 T of gold, all the way up to the championship race, with a prize of 150-200 T of gold. (I may need help with purchasing the gold for the winners) I would like to know where people are so I can choose a central place. No weapons are allowed, and any use will call for immediate disqualification. (I may hold demolition races in asteroid fields. Enter at your own risk) Who thinks that this is a good idea?

Edit; Boost is allowed.

A bit like the buckyball thing…
I have to say, one thing I really enjoyed doing in the Eagle was buzzing around a space station, scaring myself to death trying to slip between moving structures over and over.

It's just like that, but while getting swarmed by other ships. :)

Take a wing of Eagles and try do the Coriolis trench run. Leader (whoever's in front) decides where to turn at each fork and the others have to keep up, unless they're in the lead. Gentle nudging of opponents is discouraged by starport authorities due to the probability of killing untold numbers of station residents who live on either side of the trenches, but who's gonna tell?

I never heard of that. I'm doing it now.

I've seen people drifting through coriolis station trenches at breakneck speeds and just quickly threw some simple rules around the practice to turn it into a competition. Let me know if it's any good. Normally people try and race along the station's axis of rotation since it's easier to avoid the upside-down skyscrapers, but a game of follow the leader might get more intense and risky.

It was dead fun and utterly terrifying. I got B3 Shields and B3 thrusters for the eagle. I also ditched the guns so it could be as light as possible. Multiple times I turned the wrong way and went down the side of the station, and forgot which way the station was spinning, strafed the wrong way, and got stuck.

I may try to hold a demolition derby in the trench run, where eagles try and shoot each other down while screaming through the trenches. I would try with mines and multicannons, but no shields. Reactive armor and hull hardeners plus point defense should make that a very interesting competition. Perhaps FD could add an abandoned coriolis starport just for this, so racers don't get bounties for the weapon use.
