Who wants bigger ships to be able to carry one smaller ship?

Do you want bigger ships to be able to carry one small fighter?

I think it would be nice if ASPs, Pythons, Anacondas and T9s would have a small hangar for a single fighter like an Eagle, Sidewinder or smaller.
What do you guys think?

I think it would be nice, but I also think it should be practically possible for the fighter to be ejected from the cargo, i.e. the structure of the carrier needs to accommodate the function of being a carrier.

Just being able to carry a small fighter isn't enough.

Not the Asp or Python, but if Annies and T9s could be fitted with a small ship bay in a class 7 internal compartment that would be nice. Imo this should be a transport-only bay though - no sorties and docking in space - you could only unload and fly the small ship from a station (would you really want to leave your unmanned big ship as a persistent object in open space anyway?).

Very sound, so may be the annaconda with an expensive (or several expensive slot).
I would add that the other ship might be pilot by an other player and then it would be very nice.

Could use an external rack to hold the fighter.

its been stated that the Annie's have 2 docking hatchs for carrying 2 smaller ships. but can't use them at the moment. i think it is to do with the walking around as the Annie's are a multi crew ship.

It is a good idea. Couple of thoughts

- Good for traders who may want to spawn an NPC just to harry a would-be attacker
- There could potentially be player-created bulletin board missions requesting that their ship be transported (could be an insurance nightmare though)
- Hopefully if it is implemented it wouldn't resemble the beach landings on Saving Private Ryan.

well lets say a player in a larger ship where able to hire fighter pilots of a certain competence ...

drones in effect ... so the drons would open fire or re dock depending on tactics ... just like how that command base ship does release (?) drone fighters with or without warp capacity... (follow in your wake , stick within your flow distance ecetera)
so effectivly the drones could be user released and would act as faster ship interception and to enable escape for well made classes...

one could also hire wings to defend you in your lacon 7 - per trip or per hour (hired) play time

I'd say yes, but only as a disassembaled cargo, not like a carrier...

There should be a time and credits cost involved with hiring a crew to prepare the small ship to be transported. The small ship will then become a large, non-jettisonable, non-scoopable cargo item which takes up space on a cargo rack and adds cargo mass according to its size / mass. The transporting ship would need to have sufficiant space available in a single cargo rack to hold the smaller ship. Perhaps special dedicated cargo racks could be implimented for transporting ships and/or other bulky cargos.

My group and i have been discussing this possibility. it would be great to even post to hire to have your ship transported from one area to another with an X amount of credits for services. Could be a typical bulletin board mission. Yes I'm in! I would put all big ships though, T7, Orca- (side winder, eagle only) Federal Drop would be great to carry your wing buddy and release into battle with his eagle. That may be a bit much tho, but the cinematics would be mind blowing!

Yes!

Would be awesome if the pilot could run over to their strike fighter, deploy, and defend themselves. Set their rig to full stop or maybe slow ahead with a couple of turrets active. Then use their small fighter to engage the attacker(s).

i think transporting sidewinders in a T9 or Anaconda is something both ships certainly have the size for, and judging by the description, the Anaconda will at some point have the ability to launch 'non jump' fighters and sidewinders, im guessing with a massive sacrifice to its cargo space though. an unarmed, fuel free ship in a cargo rack is a totally different beast to a fully fuelled, fully armed, prepped ship in a launch bay with crew to maintain and run it.

I would think it would work as Jacques station does, a sidewinder or such could request docking, I would accept, and he would get in, pay me to siphon fuel and perhaps ammo from my guns (If we have the same types of weapons). If I decide to jump, or move, the sidewinder would come along with me, and hopefully be able to see out of some part of the docking bay. When he wants to go, he'd tell me, and I'd drop into normal space and he'd be able to leave without any further interaction from me. To prevent griefing, Sidewinders would be left in space if I were to log off, and could emergency drop out of the bay if I try to stay in SC, sort of like the emergency open button for people trapped in trunks of cars.

EDIT: I've been so excited for this since Beta 1, Pre-release. I don't know why, make me giddy :)
