Who would like to see a SuperNova in progress?

After flying around for 26 weeks I've concluded that there are a lot of pilots out there that just want to explore.

It's just a thought but would anyone want to visit a system where the star is about to explode? Can you imagine witnessing such a spectacular event?

Hopefully the developers will pick up on this idea and one day introduce it???

I'd give this one a miss personally but you knock yourself out. ;)
I want to be faaaaaar away from one of these things if it pops.

Well in reality they don't happen very often and there are none happening in any of our lifetimes at least within this galaxy, plus if you were there to see a supernova A) you wouldn't be around very long to enjoy its beauty, unless your a few 100 ly's away and B) even if you could view it from up close you wouldn't really see anything due to the extreme gravitational fields as it collapses you would be to busy getting flown all over the place as your FSD collapses, although the last one sounds like fun haha

I think more exploration content/effects are loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong overdue. I was asking for such content a year ago, and since then basically nothing has been added. - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=95448

Anything just to break up the predictable coloured balls...

Imagine some effects/mechanics added to generate more variety to encounter - http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/07/25/article-0-143684F3000005DC-654_634x469.jpg

...Unfortunately, don't hold your breath for such new features/content as I fear it's onto the next development marketing plan...

Perhaps a star in the shape of a cube? ;)

Don't be ridiculous. Now, a planet shaped like a cube...

(good ol' Bizarro World)

What about finding an old Dyson Sphere? Maybe a Monolith?

Actually, the collision of two starts would be the next best thing. LOL but can you image the audience that this would have and indeed, the amount of FSD. Certainly a challenge for the developers.

Well, the last supernova observed in our galaxy was about us 400 years ago, or about 1400 years ago by the time of Elite Dangerous. Light only moves at the speed of light (news flash: new revelations about the pope's religion, and the toilet habits of bears!) so you should be able to fly 1400ly away from Sol and re-observe the same supernova.

C'mon Frontier !

I would love for them to put contact binary stars in as they look amazing! and they are quite common in the grand schemes of the universe

Yeah, its unfortunate. I mean just think of the canvas they have created, and the things they could occupy that space with. Problem is..it feels like the model they have set up leaves them unable to pause to add this stuff, or the coffers will run dry. So much there content wise if they just set their artist loose on it. I would do nothing BUT explore if I knew there were wonders out there to be seen.

Yep! Been waiting for months and months in the hope more exploration variety/mechanics would be added... but... nada! Seems bobble heads and faces are more important instead!

Wonder if we'll ever stand a chance of seeing variety/mechanics such as this...

eg: Common envelopes or aurora borealis or electrical storms...

As the initial explosion would travel at close to the speed of light, no... No I wouldn't like to see it. Would be like a flashbulb going off with me being the flashbulb.
