So I discovered a mission for a single "Crystal Shard" and since recently returning from a trip to visit the new ancient ruins I jumped to some wild conclusions.
Turns out it's the very very basic form of focus crystals, thanks Inara webpage of amazingness!
I dug a little deeper and found they aren't used for any blueprints, and I don't recall ever seeing these in the wreckage of ships before.
Have I just been binge playing?(nvm, don't answer that, of course I have)
