Whoaaah!!! Gone for 4 months and ED is a whole new GAME

... a whole NEW game. And I'm not talking horizons.

Haven't played for the last 4 months or so and started back up recently.

Can you say SHOCK! and AWE?

I can - because that's the way I felt after I'd been back in game for about an hour. Some NPC in a Vulture sucked me out of supercruise. Alright, I thought. I love takin' these guys out and collecting the bounty on them. :D Locked on and went to town and within a few minutes I noticed somthin' had changed. [blah] This guy in his Vulture was handin' me and my fully tricked out Cobra MK3 my behind! [woah] So I took the time to notice his rating - expert and darned if he wasn't flyin' like one. I dropped weps to zero pips, set eng to 4 and sys to 2 and boosted my sorry behind right the heck out of dodge! OKAY! That's new - never had any trouble with a Vulture before. [sad]

Next stop - an RES (high). Wham, bam and thank you maam! Took about 5 minutes to figure out those guys weren't takin any doo-doo off the likes of me - I ran like a dog with his tail between his legs.

Took a meet and greet mission - you know - meet a guy - pick something up from him and carry it to somewhere else. Done those before - walk in the park. [up] Right? Riiight! This time when I found the target he was a part of a 3 ship wing and they all promptly jumped me - - by now I've learned that boost is my friend and both eng and sys start out with 3 pips each. I'm out of there.

And to add injury to humiliation the last 2 out of 3 times I've left a station I get rammed in the rear by some other ship and I'm the one that gets flagged for reckless piloting - what the heck is up with that.

Whole new game. Got to pay attention to NPC pilot ratings now, got to worry about getting ambushed.

Got to change professions - maybe something safer like trader or miner because now being a bounty hunter is costing me more than I'm earning. Then again maybe an explorer except one wonders - are there evil aliens out there that want to take me to dinner and I'm the dinner???

So...

ED is no longer a walk in the park.

And how cool is that. [up]

@ OP

How dare you praise the game we all hate but play anyway and every time somebody posts a great idea for additional content we antagonize them then proceed to whine about how lacking it is with the content.

Sarcasm aside welcome back and you might want to sit tight 'cos 2.1 is next, with that promises of an other infusion and more stuff coming in.

Try again.

Heck, you're actually right.
Still Horizons/1.5 didn't improve the AI or the difficulty of the game, wings of Elite NPCs still get stomped by any half competent player, so I'd guess the OP simply met something way beyond their skill level they hadn't seen before yet.

There were some improvements to AI, but these are hidden behind new AI features like the spin of death. Instead of lazily swimming in front of your LOS to ensure you don't lose sight of them, they now pause in front of you and spin for 30+ seconds until they blow up or snap out of it and jet away.

But if you're looking for a challenge, there are plenty of them now. Just jump in a small ship like a viper or even a sidewinder, and use only fixed weapons. Then the AI will have enough time to show you all their new moves.

The space kebab manoeuvre.

Only the best of the best knows how to perform that maneuver.

To the OP;

I haven't quit the game for any length of time since 1.3 but something strange happened nonetheless.

I quit the forums for a couple of months until this post. I've been enjoying the game immensely more now that I don't read or post here :D I recommend staying out of Dangerous Discussions save for following community goals and sticking to your game.

Recently system authority vessels don't slow down as they scan you so they tend to bounce off you. It is pretty annoying. The Mistress of Minions is now back on AI so you should find that gets fixed and the combat levels balanced so low combat rankings will probably get easier but higher ones get harder.

Repped for not whining about the game being too hard :)

Don't worry OP.....
Most of us still remember the CHANGE.
When NPC actually gave back as much as they got.
When ELITE: Walk in the PARK .....became ELITE: Dangerous .....
Once upon a time a Viper would SERIOUSLY CONSIDER taking on a wing of Clippers guarding an ANACONDA
Now a Wing of Eagles guarding an ASP needs serious planning and a lot of guts.
I will never take on again a WING of FAS/Gunships ... even in my Fer-De-Lance without planning my escape route if things head south.
I thank the stars that NPC no longer bounce against asteroids anymore in RES.
I curse the gods when Pirates or Federals Boost Scan my cargo to then smash into me.

Had I been given a choice .....I would want them to bash into asteroids again and NOT ME .... at least this way only THEIR shields and armor suffer.

OP, did you consider the possibility that you might be worse at the game after 4 months sabbatical?

I play with gimbals detargeted with NPCs and I took approx. 4 mins (each!) to kill a Viper & Courier yesterday, in my DBS! I couldn't catch them or stay on them & nearly ran out of ammo.. for 2 ships!!!!..but I put it down to a bad day at the office, not better AI!

The doner of death is a situation where I always stop shooting & things get back to normality..a bit immersion breaking, but no less than killing it while it spins!
