That's the sound of Powerplay and pledges going way over my head. :S
I don't know if it's bugged, if it's poorly explained or if i'm stupid but i'm very confused with all of this. Some powers seem to be missing information in the stats page. Some have no information on Headquarters or Control while others have no information for any of the categories listed in the Stats tab. I take it this is to mean no bonuses/penalties in these sections? :S
What happens if I pledge...? Do I need to pack up and move to that controlled system to take advantage of bonuses and take part in expansion, preparation and control/fortification missions? If I join, say, Mahan do I get the listed trade bonuses only in territories controlled by him or is it tied to the four main factions(Independent, Alliance, Empire, Federation) even outside of his control? For instance, suppose i'm not in any controlled zone of space, I join Mahan and my home system is Alliance/Independent. Do I get bonuses for this system if I pledge to him or are the bonuses only active specifically in his region of space?
One thing that's getting to me is the descriptions of the powers. I guess i'd consider myself a trader but, to be honest, none of the powers really sound right for me. Zemina Torval and Edmund Mahan are pretty much listed as being trade specific but anything in the description doesn't really point to that or the quests/missions entailed. As for the expansion missions it just sounds like simple courier work as opposed to actually trading large amounts of goods to where they need to be. I mean, looking at Zemina Torval for her etos it basically says she just buys up land to gain influence but what does that mean for me as a trader? What will I be doing to help? It doesn't tell you very much as to what you will be doing or what will be open to you in terms of supporting these powers based on their etos and the help screens pretty much tell you to check the etos of powers to help make up your mind.
