Newcomer / Intro Why am I being attacked by an Anaconda?

My 6th ' mission. Solo play, I get sucked out of Super-Speed or what ever it's called and a ' Anaconda messes(sensored) me in my Sidewinder. How (sensored) does this happen? The game is slow enough as it is without being constantly destroyed by ships that just bunny hunt you. There are VERY few missions to get any money, you can't travel far enough to turn in scan data. It's crap compared to ANY space sim, even the original.

I've played for weeks and only been attacked by NPC's on a handful of occasions. And I could have avoided most of them by avoiding the interdiction if I had wanted to.

- Are you trying to avoid the interdiction (pointing towards the escape vector)?
- Are you avoiding Anarchy systems (purportedly the most dangerous places, although I still have to find any evidence of that)?

Was it a player? Get away from populated areas. Space is big, very big.
Was it a player/NPC? Target that escape vector; escape.
Was it a player/NPC? Kill your throttle, submit to interdiction. All power to engines, boost boost boost jump away.

Do some bounty hunting at a NAV Point or Ressource Extraction Site, the credits will roll in fast enough for you to be able to upgrade
your Sidewinder with, for instance, a better FSD.

Which mission?
Which system?
What were you carrying?
What's you're jump range?
What mods do you have?

Answer a few of these questions, somebody may be able to help bud.....

PS Keep jumping in a straightish line anywhere, you'll be able to sell your data within about four or five jumps.

How long before he took you out?

I got hit hardest by a NPC last night than I've ever been hit before. There was a couple missions to attack traders and bounty hunters but kind of different than I've seen before, they were trying to overtake 3 or 4 systems and these missions were supposed to help.

I don't know if this is why I got attacked because I am kinda high ranked in the Federation but he hit me 3 times in a matter of seconds and my shields were gone and my hull was down to 50%. I was in a T6 with only C shields but even so, I have never been hit that hard before by a NPC. If I didn't react as quick as I did after the initial assault, I would've been space dust.

He was Master rank in a Cobra(I think Cobra)

Hi cmdr. Palathas, how long have you been playing ED for?

If, you havent already done so, the best way to get advice on this forum is you are new to the game is to start a new thread introducing yourself.

This way the moderator will provide you with a bunch of useful information on how to get on in ED :D

Was in Solo or PVP? Solo play means just you vs machines - the other ships are allnon-player ones. Yes, you can still get interdicted but it's not all that common (and from my own experience, very rare as a beginner, but more common as you go up in rank, and become a more tempting target as it were).

If it was another rplayer then sadly there are sad gits around who take pleasure in bullying people - this is called "griefing". It offers no gain to them except the pleasure of spoiling your day. It cannot happen in Solo mode.

The best thing to do is to try to keep on the escape vector, then you willevade the interdiction. If you do get stopped, then (if it's a nonplayer character, an NPC) they may well be satisfied with your cargo. They'll say so in the comms. You can then dump your cargo.

If they really want to blowyou up, then the best thing to do is run. A Sidewinder is very fragile, but it's also fairly fast and maneuverable.

Anacondas are massively armed and armoured and shielded. But they cannot outfly a small ship. The best thing to do is put maximum power to your engines, hit the boosters and dodge - whilst charging up your framseshift drive and then jumping out as soon as you can.

You can't outfight an Anaconda. But you can outrun it. If it's a more even match, then you can make a figh tof it. Lots of pirates will actually run themselves if you put up a good fight, espescially if you manage to bring their shields down. Also, the longer the fight, the bigger the chance the cops wil turn up.

If a squadron of federation Vipers show up they can bring even an Anaconda down, given long enough.

If you're looking for a kill-a-minute game find something else. This is a more long term type of game. You should just run away from anything too scary and nasty.
Most NPC don't shoot at you immediately, you usually have time to do as has been advised, boost away then get back in supercruise mode.
With 4 tones of cargo bay you won't make much money at first. Take the cargo runs and courier jobs. They only make a few thousand credits a time, but pay for the fuel.
I wouldn't get involved in fighting at all till you can upgrade the guns to a gimballed type, but you' be better buying a slightly bigger ship with the money.
If you want to upgrade the guns on that then you'll have a bit more fun.
Good luck

I'm happy to just get a mission every now and then. Before this I was attacked twice by NPCs, I guess (I am in SOLO), and they were no problem. I've spent about 10 hours going from base to base ttying to get one way missions to deliver 4 units of stuff or a data module. The only time I've been attacked by the Eagles was when i took a data module mission. I really don't pay too much attention to where I am but it was close to where I started. This data delivery run I was attacked by a Anaconda. 4 beam weapons and two guns. I saw them as I dodged. I was hit 3 times and I blew up. I don't know the game well enough to get more than the basics. I scared the crap out of me and made me reset my save.

After that crap I'd rather start from scratch.

I would have been scared as well in similar situation. I must say that I have not encountered situations like that myself - pretty much all NPCs interdicting me have been harmless.

Are you sure you had not accrued a hefty bounty on your head through illegal activities (bounty hunters will come for you then (I assume, I have no personal experience) even if you are a beginner).

Kill a minute. I've not been able to get a mission an hour. Even doing trading runs takes 30 to 60 minutes each. You can, even now if you run it on an emulator, do a single run in 2 to 3 minutes in the original. I'm thinking this is 35 pounds down the drain and is no better than X-Rebirth. I guess I'll just have to wait for Star Citizen.

What type of system were you in? If it was an anarchy system then you are almost guaranteed to get interdicted by NPCs. It is, after all, lawless space.

Getting to a station in the original in anarchy systems could take ages as you didn't need to get interdicted to come out of jump space, just having another ship turn up would mass lock you. Even if they were not aggressive you would have to wait until they were out of range before jumping again. It only needed a few encounters like that and you could spend 20-30 minutes trying to get to the station.

If you are looking for kills then head to a resource extraction site and look for 'wanted' criminals and collect the bounties. Be careful not to hit any other CMDRs or security vessels that are around as you will end up with a bounty yourself. This is a pretty good way for new players to earn good money from the start. Unless you have a KW scanner you will need to steer clear of Anarchy systems for bounty hunting as EVERYBODY shows as clean in an anarchy system - you have to scan them for bounties in other systems.

Easiest way to make money at the start is exploration. IMHO.
Just keep jumping in the same direction for 150-200 light years. Make the shortest economical jumps.
Always run from fights.
When you stop for fuel look to see if there are any courier jobs going your way.
Once you've amassed around 40000 you could look for a high tech system selling "Performance Enhancers" which has a "Seeking Luxuries" trader near a station.
There you can make around 1100 credits per ton every 5 minutes.

I admit I've been playing since premium beta. But when I started I did spend a while thinking "How exactly am I supposed to make any money ?"

It's a bit slow to begin with but definitely not impossible :)

I've been interdicted by an anaconda. In my unarmed Adder, 200LY from populated space. Why? Don't know. Don't care either. Conda's are slow and bulky ships, just spool FSD while staying away from them. Make sure you don't fly in a straight line and you're fine. Btw, personally I am not a big fan of people who are complaining they died feel the need to add random unsubstantiated complaints. Considering that other people are doing well, the fact that you are not may not be the game's fault. You may want to think about how to improve and do better next time you are in a tough spot instead of complaining. You'll probably have more fun. :)

when i was starting I took courier and hauling missions and took notes at each station I stopped at.
this way I had a trade route ready when I had amassed enough credits to buy a worthwhile cargo.
upgrade the FSD and I could jump to more systems and soon I was far away from my lousy starter system and found more lucrative spots
