Why am I sat crying in my gaming chair - despite ED being the greatest game

Hello Commanders and hello Frontier Developments.

I'm crying in frustration because I can no longer use my chair as I designed it to be used. FD are the only ones who can help me and my fellow, albeit small number of ED online gaming friends who are now all in the same frustrating situation. I'm really hoping that FD read my post as to date our plight has remained un-acknowledged and we've exhausted all other avenues. We are an active, growing group based around the world who have taken the next step in virtual reality in addition to using a vr headset. You see, I built my chair to move with full ED game motion and so have my friends.

I'm sorry that the great ED gaming community will not really be able to reply to this post, aside from maybe offering some sympathy. I'm also sorry if this post seems to be a little selfish as it currently only affects maybe less than 1% of ED players, however, tomorrows technology today....et al. We are some of the ones developing the 'next gen' gaming toys. So in the end it will affect many more in the future. I already have 1500hrs with ED in VR and +100hrs of them with motion.

Our frustration is that with each and every ED update and patch, the game data memory locations change and all our development goes down the drain. We have to start from scratch again in trying to code-match ED with the plugin we wrote to use with ED. Each time it takes between 2 and 7 days to write and test the plugin. With only a couple of our members with the necessary coding skills to do it. To put this in contest, patch 2.3.02 dropped in May and it took 7 days to get the motion working. Now 3 weeks later its all stopped working again. There are 6 full pages of patch notes - many of which have had the same 2-7 days of motion programming from us. In between times, over a third of my gaming room, and the £100's of equipment (+£1000 for some) lies dormant and for the time being - obsolete. Our experts are tiring of having to keep recoding each time and I feel their frustration as well as my own.

Please FD, many games provide motion data in an api with their game. Can we please have a motion data api to use and save us from this utter nightmare. Even if its a "no- we have no intention of providing motion data" reply then at least we know where we stand.

I have posted here before about motion in ED and point out again that we share our motion simulation information and encourage as many people as possible to consider motion in their gaming. I attach a pic and short vid of my chair - this is now completely motionless again as of today.

Thank you for reading. Please remember that little details like this really affect the future development of technology with gaming. Just as ED is designed with VR in mind - ED also works stunningly with motion. A great step forward in gaming that I and others are pushing forward for everyone to get access to but we can only move forward with FD help.

They and their team work night and day to develop systems more advanced than most will ever understand, to get added enjoyment to a game they love, and hope to develop that technology to bring it to the masses, and of all things....

You focus on the carpet...

I....I got nothing...I'm just....disappointed...

Yeah...I deleted it. It really is a fantastic setup. Something like has to be $10K at least.

As a supporter of Open Source, I love projects like this. Adding motion output calls should be fairly simple, or at least lock down the memory locations to known values.

OP - I'd open a ticket with support and provide your documentation with as much supporting data as possible to give the FD programmers all the info they will need to assist.

Hi Commander,
£10k -hah!
I build this setup for less than £250. I've had over 100hrs in it and it has 20 degrees of movement pitch and roll (enough to smack your head on the head rest if you crash) or spill tea over yourself. If I increase the angle then a seatbelt would be needed. I do have an emergency stop button tho (red button in background in the picture).

BTW even if I don't use your tools, you deserve the biggest thanks for bringing these extras to the game.

Thanks. I didn't think you might actually care. Feel a little bad now for telling you off, sorry.

I generally get worked up over something like that, becuase I know I'd never be capable of making anything that good, I'm just not that hard working. Be nice if I was that hard working lol.

LOL

I built the chair in my garage. That's why the carpet is dirty (chair shares the garage with a gsxr turbo and supercharged R1 - my other 'building' hobby!)

But, that's not the point. That set up is g awesome!

I need dis.

+1 to getting you your support. :)

Good luck!

"Motion programming"?
I am confused, still. What is the complaint? API for...?
Please don't make me read the OP a third time.

250 British Pounds would be about $500Cdn. That's extremely affordable. Do you need to use the HMD? Have you tried it with DCS or Valkyrie?

If your peeking into elite dangerous process memory, your breaking the EULA. They have already told multiple developers not to do this.
