Why an SRV, not a skimmer?

I'd like to see a tracked version, but then I'm actually a fan of the current SRV...I find it to be a very enjoyable aspect and distraction when I'm out in the black. A tracked version however, would be much better suited to the mountains of some moons/planets. Slower but better suited to the terrain.

One issue with a skimmer would be how they cargo scoop materials. Maybe comes with a built in dyson, who knows.

Then again, I wouldn't say no to a tron lightcycle either. Or big chunky tires with cool 5 spoke alloys. Or a neon pink paint. Fluffy dice fer the dashboard? How's about a winch that could be used to help climb near sheer walls? Current off road vehicles already use such things and have done fer years...seems that the designers in the future have forgotten some very basic design attributes for off road vehicles.

If Skimmers can carry a machine gun and its ammo, I think they should also be able to carry a human pilot in exchange for said weaponry. Speaking of which, if FDev implements player piloted Skimmers to have no weapons and cargo space, it would strike a perfect balance out of the two surface vehicles, I think.

It will be a matter of choice for the cmdrs to choose between lighter, more maneuverable Skimmers that are solely for exploration, or heavier but more versatile traditional rovers which can do a little bit of everything.
Quite interesting idea that, a skimmer as an exploration vehicle, but yeah, without weapons or such, yeah it could probably carry a human. Could be fun, for racing too..

Because the generation that made this game idealized the moon-buggy and we idealize the Mass Effect Hammerhead.

I've always thought it is something to do with people treating Electro-Gravitics and Inertial Propulsion like Blimps. It was only cute in the 50s, but Science Fiction refuses to give up on that trope.

The mass effect generation idealizes the mako.

The thing with SRV handling on low G worlds is that it's only twitchy if you absolutely floor it. I'm not sure what the speed is measured in, if it's m/s that converts to a top speed of around 55mph.

Maybe I'm weird but I liked the Mako. It managed to cope quite well with the awful landscapes that Bioware stuck it in. I found the Hammerhead slightly disappointing.

As for a skimmer launcher, yes please. Have you ever flown into one? Shields down and taking damage while the skimmer is unharmed. A skimmer launcher would probably be more powerful than a PA or railgun. :D
