why are all the engineers only found on planets??

it seems like there's a bunch of things wrong with the logic on this.

1) they'd be on the ground of ELW not barren rocky planets if they're some sort of super great scientist

2) some of them would be in space and not on the ground just because of the setting

why are neither of these things considered?

1) WIP LOL!

2) gotta content lock 100% of content to DLC and not consider powercreep

Oh... I was trying to think of a punchline... 'Why are all engineers only found on planets?' sounds like a setup for a joke...

But as a response I'd say the following:

GAMEPLAY - It's an old but very much needed excuse in a lot of games. Frontier will of considered this part of the Horizons update and so we get to land on planets to see them. Why would some of them be in space? Building a large base into the bed rock of a planet is far more secure and I suspect cheaper than building a space platform.

How do you know there are no Engineers on ELWs?

But I see this thread is just an excuse so you can complain about having to pay for a product.

FD are now building a new office, why haven't they even started on building a house for me? I bought the base game, they owe me for life!

Engineers were content specific for the Horizons expansion and FDEV never made that a secret. It was a headline feature for 2.2 IIRC. So they are not available for base game players. They had to think of some way to restrict access and since planetary landings module is also only available for Horizons players, they made all the Engineer bases planetary ones. Nice and easy.

Simples.

Let's say they are all old salty space dogs (they do appear to be), so that's why they've had enough of space. Since they're also clearly brainboxes, that explains why they choose to live far from civilisation.

Now, I WILL need an explanation why Elvira Martuuk chooses to live on a world where she weighs nearly twice as much (female hang-ups about weight aside ;) ). Her portrait should be altered to look like a female Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime if she's able to live comfortably under 1.65G (iirc??)

Why d'ya think?

To sell Horizons.

While that's true of course (Engineers are season 2 specific content afterall), they still could have put some of them in space.

A few reserved systems which would only unlock if Horizons is installed, and thereby be inaccessible for non-Horizons players.

Just putting them all on planet surfaces is the easier solution of course, so i can see why they did it this way.

I really like that they are on planetary surfaces. After a billion and one spaceport visits its good to hit the dirt from time to time.

I can only imagine the RAGE if community found out there is a WHOLE SYSTEM locked behind the Horizons expansion paywall... No no no, bad idea that :D

1. There will, almost certainly, be more Engineers added once landing-on-ELWs is added to the game.

2. They aren't on space stations because of a gameplay decision: Engineers were decreed to be Horizons content, which meant putting them all down on planets. "Logically", some of them should be in space. Some of them should have their own landable megaships they wander around the universe aboard.

Mistakes, errors and failures. Think about it, big bang in space against a big bang on a planet more survivors on a planet.

Well, lore tells us Elvira used to be an assassin (and highly skilled in close-quarters combat), maybe she's using the 1.65G to train a-la Dragonball Z?

That being said, higher gravity doesn't seem to affect people at all in this game universe... *possible Premonition spoiler incoming*

Salome, Raan, Hassan and Tsu - all from different backgrounds and different parts of the Bubble - seem completely unconcerned by the increased gravity when they visit Elvira's base. Continuity error on Drew's part? Very likely...

For the same reason the new ships will only be available if you buy the atmosphere DLC. They will only be sold on atmosphere bases.

I wouldn't be surprised if several/many of the engineers sites are blasted by the Thargoids once they attack, since the engineers have a probability of developing weapons/defenses to fight back. My tinfoil version, is that many/all of the remaining engineers will flee to the more hidden "asteroid stations". This would open up the engineers to many more players to join in the CGs to support weapons/defense development, and eventually start grinding for new things from the engineers without giving up "full-scale planet/moon landing capabilities".
