Why are Both RES and Combat Zones for Fighting? Where Are Miners to Go?

Title says it all. If both RES and Combat Zones are intended for fighters, where are miners to go? Balance has not been restored to the universe. The AI is so good, only .000000001% of players stand a chance in what should be a place for mining. The AI works like sharks. Once one smells blood, there are 4 Elite on you in no time. If you are not haveing a problem against the AI, consider yourself as dishonoring your country because you should be serving in the air force. You are also making this game too dificult for the average player with all of your make it harder noise. Do us and your country a favor and go jump into a real jet.

-Goto an RES
-Bring protection
-???
-Profit!

Nothing stopping you from going to a Lower Intensity RES.

Low Intensity should have a police presence?
Belt Clusters?
Not at the actual RES on the Ring but anywhere else?

I drop into the ring about .25LS from the RES, and fill my hold without seeing more than 1 NPC, often without seeing any.

But my "mining" Asp is also kitted for combat, so I'd love to hear your tips on getting some prey to break up the monotony.

you are not supposed to mine in this game, you are supposed to sit and log in and out from the lobby to get big RES spawns.

mining yield sucks in low res, high res is where all the juicy rocks are.

Things change from day to day so fast it feels like there is no consistancy. One day mining is where it is at and the then the pendulem swings and now is all about fighting for bounties. We went weeks without a single update and now things are just swinging back and fourth.

High Intensity RES being mini-warzones makes sense in an Elite where mining itself makes sense. When (if) mining is buffed to be as or more profitable than trading, this whole classification will be logical. Drop out wherever around a ring for decent yields. Drop at a low intensity or high intensity RES for higher risk and higher rewards. Make good money either way. Right now the profit is horrible, and going to a high RES is the only thing that keeps mining from being a complete waste of time, so it's all out of whack.

Can any part of a belt be mined? Or just in/around the RES?

If all of the belt can be mined (just at lower/slower yield, then RES' already are high-profit 'Gold Rush zones', and career miners just need to find a quiet spot in a belt (they'll only show up as a USS or WSS)

If not, perhaps RES sites should be "Gold Rush" zones - spots where miners are congregating to make a quick buck at higher risk.
This would mean RES sites would need to be fabulously rich in mineral wealth to offset the escort/repair/bribes to pirates to leave-me-alone bills.

The regular longer-term mining zones should be essentially combat-free, letting miners get decent cash-making stints in even though it wouldn't bring in as much as a much higher risk 'Gold Rush' zone.

Mining ships should be able to offload into nearby haulers (Types 6, 7 and 9 for example).

I think the intent is to encourage group play.

I suspect that this is failing in part because mining tends to attract players who actively pursue solitude.

Has anyone had success with flying with wingmen to keep the heat off while mining? Does that actually work or is it only a good idea on paper?

Been mining a bit recently as part of the CG.

In short you can mine ANYWHERE you can see and get to a rock.

Not noticed much difference in the yield between the low risk RES and "normal" space.

Haven't tried high risk RES as I've yet to locate one with a metallic ring (pristine) so can't say if that's better..?

Be interesting to know.

Fill your hold with 1/4 of a hold of drones and that'll be enough to fill the ship up if we'll managed.

Using 2 the same time makes mining a LOT quicker.

Don't bother with surveying drones - waste of time and resources - just scan the rocks yourself.

To avoid getting shot at..? Best defence 'no be there' - at 20K from RES you'll rarely pick up anything on your radar.

If you do..? Move..Simples.

Good luck.

How does a high security system/high intensity res differ from a low security/high intensity I wonder?
It may be worth heading to a system that has elevated security due to Powerplay effects. If you're not pledged elsewhere already.

Wait.. So you want a place of perfect peace and harmony where nothing will bother you while you shoot at rocks?

Traders can get shot at. Pirates can get shot at. Bounty hunters can get shot at. People running board missions can get shot at. But if miners get shot at, the game isn't 'balanced'.

LOL

Yep, just fly into any part of the ring at min speed.

Traders only get shot at while flying to and from stations, miners get shot at everywhere. Wouldn't it be great if pirates could fly into the station and shoot you at your pad while you're trying to fill your cargo hold? ;)

Most ships are found near the sc navigation point.

If you are mining you can fly to and drop out of sc anywhere in the ring. There are far quieter areas away from the the res nav beacon.

You do realize there are plenty of planets with rings that don't have extraction sites, and there are also plenty of asteroid groups out there you can mine on, don't you? And hey, High Intensity sites are still likely to be the best profit potential, and because of that, there's going to be more action. Since this argument has been used against combat pilots in regards to res sites previously, I'm going to use it to you now: "I'm sorry FD took away your easy cash farm."

It was a worthless cash farm, which supports your point from the other side really

No idea why anybody would complain about this, it still is better to avoid RES and just go mining in the great beyond, the yields are the same and you don't get disturbed.
