Why are some stations 250,000 Ls from where hyperdrive drops you?

I decided to sell my 4M CR+ Cobra and really go trader (not max 40 cargo at a time) so I got a Lakon with 96T cargo space and figured I should start exploring the universe...

Well, I didn't go very far before I decided to turn around and go back to my Styx/Aulin/Nang Ta-Khian area... Why? :S

Aside from having a few systems that claimed to be Industrial, but with no station at all in there, it seemed that as I was getting further from home base (Nang), hyperdrive would drop me off in a system hundreds of thousands of Ls (yes Light Seconds). I did it once to reach a well populated High-Tech system as it was at 25,000 Ls. Ok that took like 5 minutes desperately watching the speed grind up to 300 times the speed of light. Overall that trip in Superdrive latest about 10mn of boring...

Next I decide to jump to the next few systems and in all of them, the stars I dropped out of hyperdrive were between 100,000Ls and 250,000Ls.. That's insane...

I thought it might be a bug so I logged out and back in, but no... that seems to be how these systems were designed. Note that they all had trading station(s) in System Map, and some with many of them, well populated.

What is the point? After dropping of hyperdrive, the max distance I had seen before that was 1,500Ls, which can be covered in one minute... but 200,000Ls, forget it, I am not exploring the galaxy anymore and will stay around home base if that's how the systems are designed.

Thanks for explaining to me if I missed something or did something wrong. It looks like a bug to me... you shouldn't drop out of hyperdrive 100,000Ls away from the next station, or planet as a matter of fact.
:)

Only thing I have to say to this is... space is incomprehensibly massive.
Perhaps they could tweak the acceleration / deceleration rates but your still going to find systems with celestial bodies very far apart.

Its the Science of this Fiction .... the FDS must be connected with the Biggest Mass in a System. Drink a Cup of tea...check System Map ... fire Basic Scanner, maybe you find something ... relax during this long flights

Yup, pretty much this ^^^. Space is what it is. Some systems are bigger than others.

While 250000 LS might seem massive compared to 1500, you will accelerate to huge speeds between the gravity wells and it doesn't take that long to go between them ... although you probably shouldn't use the SC "autopilot" speed when travelling, just accelerate with full thrust until you hit something like 10s to target and the throttle back to the 75% "autopilot" speed.

Good advise ...

The great thing about space is that there is something of everything. Yes, you will find some systems with far out stations that aren't even worth the time while other far out stations that can be quite lucrative. On the other hand, you have stations so close to their star you'd think they'd literally be on fire. And, you will find everything in between too!

I found one lucrative trade route that nets me 100k+ per round trip. The systems are less than 8Ly from one another and each station is under 500Ls from the hyperdrive drop out. High Tech system too, so I'm upgrading my Cobra with every other round trip.

Just gotta keep looking, or spy on the right people (as I did).

You mean turn off flight assist? Because I have been putting my throttle to the max for acceleration and it still took forever.
Thanks

I still think that when a system shows 2 stars, each with like 5 planets, and even 2/3 station, when dropped off of hyperdriveand they all show the closest location (even planet) is 50,000Ls away... something is wrong...
In this case, this happened to me for all systems I went to in an area... Maybe that's beta...

Anyway, I'll try Flight Assist off to see if I can just raise my speed to 500c quickly, then it shouldn't be an issue. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks!

:)

if i recall, you can buy different types of engines in full release, obviosuly some will be faster.

other than that, i mean, some systems will be a pain in the ass, the fact that it takes so long to get to those stations means some people may LIKE living there, because its less likely a pirate is going to fly all the way out there looking for targets, so they are free to mine/PvE whatever on their own. not all stations want a front door view of blinding cancer-light

No FAoff won't change anything. SC autopilot is just having your throttle in the middle of the blue section.

Binary and Trinary systems will often have a far away station just by nature of how planets and orbiting stars form in such a system and the fact that hyperdrive takes you to the most massive star.

It can be frustrating jumping into a system to find the station is tens or hundreds of AU away from the main star, but thankfully I've found this to the case in approximately half the systems I've visited so far (I'd guess I've been to over 80 station-populated systems). If I can't be bothered with the in-system trek to the station, I just jump to the next; missions can be cancelled, goods sold on a black market and fines paid all at a minor loss so no problems there.

On a joke side note: I hate having to drive off the motorways (highways/freeways/autobahn/etc) and drive at only 30mph for over an hour just get to my friends' houses, businesses etc. Why can't everyone just live next to motorways so I never need to drive slower than 70mph?! ;)

Well then, it is an issue because my throttle was all the way up that blue section showing constant acceleration... It took me 10mn to get to a acceptable speed and reach the first location 25,000Ls away... I didn't even try the few 100,000Ls.

Spending 15mn in Superdrive is NOT fun... hence my point exactly: I won't be exploring at all outside my comfort area if most systems are build like this. I hope that was a procedural bug.

No, there's no FA-Off in SC.

But your speed will probably hit 1000c+ if you're flying longer distances, it's just the climb from the gravity wells that takes time.

I'm not saying that the travel time in larger systems will be 1-2 mins but I'm pretty sure it never took more than 10 minutes even in the largest ones I've tried which were somewhere around 300000LS

I wrote before...you can scan and maybe there is something in this 250.000 Ls ... but maybe you are right and we need an Instant Station Jump

I found a 1.5 million ls station. Took forever to get to it and I was cursing when my drive peeked at 1.1k x C before slowing down. I was still a good 15 minutes away at that point. The station turned out to be a small pirate one with nothing of value.

I think at a minimum, the System Map should tell you relative distances to other_stars/rings/planets/stations from the star where you drop out of hyperdrive...

Once I was in this far area (about 60Ly from Eranin) it seemed like every system (known) I entered was like that... I would have been fine if it was half of them... but no, all of them were.
Hence I turned around and got home...

Mine peaked at around 300c on my 25,000Ls trip... to my dismay, because I spent another 5mn to get there before I dropped out of superdrive.

While it is true that space is inconceivably vast, space stations are not a part of the natural universe. They are placed purposefully by someone, and should probably be closer to the star than 250,000 LS.

No, I am not suggested easy mode or instant travel, as a matter of fact SuperCruise is one of my favorite parts of the game. Still there should be reasonable balance. 25,000 LS sure. 250,000? It's a bit much.

Again, space stations are man made, they are placed by people, and need not conform to the "space is vast" concept. Some consideration should probably be given to balancing this in some reasonable manner.

I can think of a lot of reasons why people would not want to have easily reachable stations :)

Or maybe the planet they're orbiting is lucrative enough base to counter the long distances.

Personally I don't think that 5-10 minute transit time is unreasonable for some stations ... there's still a lot of high traffic systems where you can bounce between the stations very fast.

Yes I can agree with that as well. These should definitely be the rare exception though, in my opinion.

Some systems will necessitate stations that are far from the star.... There is one system with an A star and a B star where the station is 25000 ls away, much closer would be dangerous. In another, nearby system there was a similarly distant station, but it orbits a planet with a metal-rich ring classified as a major resource.

Other stations are <100 ls away. You just need to look around.

By the way, the system map will give you a good idea how far the station is, if you have the info: you need to look at the orbit of the planet that the station is going round... it is given in AU, but 1 AU is about 8 light minutes, or around 500 ls.
