Why are the Feds attacking me?

Does anyone know why Federal Security keep attacking me at Nav beacons when I'm Bounty Hunting? I'm attacking Wanted Pirates, not police, and DEFINITELY NOT hitting or attacking the Feds, but after my kill and bounty award they turn on me and start firing. I am not wanted and have no bounty on my head. Completely clean, Ideas?

you are attacking "wanted" but from same faction like FS, and you are probably unfriendly at this faction

Same thing has happened to me lately, attack wanted ships and after destroying them, avoiding hitting the feds, I am attacked by the feds, when no bounty on me or wanted tag

Also have some clean ships jumping into the nav beacons and showing up red straight away, rather than orange, before I have even done anything, so avoid attacking them, in case I am made wanted for it.

Annoying, but I have just SC away for a while and then stopped and returned and seems like the Feds forget about you

I've experienced this quite a bit lately in a few Federation systems. I've raised a ticket with FD to hopefully look into this but while playing around over the weekend, I can't really see a valid reason game-play-wise that could cause this.

Claiming the bounty you have in the system and going back seems to fix this for me.. Until you build the bounty back up again.

My friend and I have this issue, I think it is something to do with a fine not paid at some other federation system, 200cr for forgetting to ask for docking permission, after 24 hours, you are public enemy number 1 and will be attacked by authority fighters at every federation system. we both have the problem and we are retracing our steps to find out where the fine is owed as this information is lacking in the transactions, the status/factions screen and the status finances screen, only 444 systems visited over a couple of months, shouldn't take long to find it, eh?

I have no objection to paying the fine, but a galaxy wide fine, to the federation, of 400cr cannot be paid at any federation system so far. come on frontier, at least give us a chance and tell us where the fine is levied.

I'm quite sure its just the faction thing now someone has pointed it out. Nothing to do with bounties as I don't have one.

When a player attacks a ship that is allied by faction ties to security ships in the same area, those security ships will attack the player.

It shouldn't happen, it's an acknowledged known bug, and Frontier have indicated in the past they are aware of it. However, they also said that the solution was not going to be a trivial fix, and needs correcting deep within the code. I'd expect it to be a high priority fix when they get back into the office in 6 days time.

I'm sure this is a bug rather than a faction thing, because you can SC away from the Nav Beacon and immediately go back and when you emerge, everyone's all green and pals and unicorns again.

Getting attacked by the Feds whilst not having Wanted status yourself, is most definitely a bug. In fact I recall reading a Dev saying they're looking into this, before Xmas.

This doesn't really make a lot of sense. If you're in a system that has security, and you're attacking *any* Wanted ships, this should be considered helping the security forces. In no way should they attack you for this.

It's clearly a bug, and one that seems to make raising rep with that systems govt. hard. I seem to just lose rep trying to gain it by bounty hunting in that system.

This is definitely a bug, which I have experienced multiple times as well. Before gamma 3.0 (?) any vessel that accidently hit you got a wanted status (including authority vessels) and would promptly be destroyed. Now security ships will sometimes fire on you and other clean vessels, but retain a clean status themselves. I destroyed one of these rogue federal sec ships and got a 9000cr fin. I've seen a security ship attacking clean vessels that fight back and get a wanted status and then get destroyed. Also accidental hits from clean npc vessels on you do not give them a wanted status any more.

It's not just the local cops, I've been attacked by other clean ships in the area and got a bounty for firing back on them, for pretty much the same reason. Sounds like it's being looked in to, in the meantime I can get by with jumping out and back in again and checking the status of anyone shooting at me before I shoot back.

Yup, if your rep with the SA's faction drops low because you have been killing their (wanted) friends, then they don't like it. Eventually you get to the point where they will go hostile immediately if you even look at them funny.

Best bet in this case is switch to a new system to farm pirates as its the minor faction that counts most here.

Alternately, do some missions, especially charitable ones for the SA's faction and get friendly with them again, and this time try not to target their friends.
