Newcomer / Intro Why are the tutorials in game SUCH A ING DISAPPOINTMENT????

Hi,

Not gonna post my whole frustration of 1.5hours in tutorial trying to change my keyboard layout to SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY WORKS!.

Long story short, for a new person this is soooo confusing to understand and wish the support page for Elite was better. I am utterly disappointed.

Gonna uninstall this ing excuse of a space sim and just continue with my Star Citizen game. Wow...I expected more.

There are updates tomorrow which should change the starter tutorial aspect of the game so maybe download those in around 20 hours and see if that helps.

Getting started has always been hard in Elite going right back to the 1980s.

As above ^.

There is a fairly steep curve, but once you nail it, you won't be disappointed.

Surely its less frustrating than a game in alpha??

Actually. Regardless of it being in Alpha still. Star Citizen is currently in a much better place right now and almost "feature complete" to the point that they're almost ready for Beta.
They also getting very cloth, with Squadron 42, the second game they're building at the same time, which is a stand alone/si gel player campaign that will act as a direct prequel to Star Citizen.

I totally agree with the keyboard layout, it's an absolute disaster. Roll on the mouse smh...

I changed my mouse to be pitch and yaw, Q and E to roll, W and S for forwards throttle, A and D for sideways throttle, R and F for up and down throttle. This setup works pretty well for me as far as the basic flight controls go. If I need more stuff beside these, I spend the five to ten minutes to set up a new keybindings for it that actually works.

As for the tutorial, there is an update coming out literally today with a new turorial

I just started playing this a few weeks ago, and while I agree that it takes some time to get the control "right" I would expect nothing less of any half-decent space sim. If even then it's not that hard assuming you got FA on.

It's not supposed to be an easy game to master, but it's not that complicated to get started.

While ED does have a lack of information on the higher end type game stuff (i.e. Splodey-mining, identifying "good" asteroids, mining for stuff with the SRV, etc.) I found that the basic "learning to fly and do normal stuff" was fairly straight forward. The hardest part in the beginning was landing/docking...but once you got the controls in your head and the way they moved your ship, it wasn't hard.

Sorry that you didn't like the game...but if you want your hand held while playing...try Space Invaders.

Give it a try once more. I was also frustrated the first time I run this game, but then a friend told me I need about an hour or more to set up all keys on keyboard and learn how to properly maneuver the ship. We need patience, without giving up. That's not arcade game but a real space sim, it needs a lot of keys and functions, which is good. In an airplane there are also a lot of buttons to operate.
