There is nuclear weapon in elite, its called the corvette, some cutters run from it and other ships just stop and look at its beauty.[haha]
We already have those. They’re called gankers. So, now we're getting Reavers?
Given the absolutely abyssmal engagement ranges in ED yeah it really isn't a problem to say... nuke an entire combat zone. Nukes being "ineffective" in a vacuum is relative to nukes in a atmosphere, and its not a thing with just Nuclear weapons, but explosives in general.I read that it is said that the problem is the effectiveness of the nuclear explosion in the vacuum, but Ed is science fiction and already there are missiles and torpedoes that explode and damage effectively
[h=2]Why are there no nuclear weapons in Elite?[/h]
Nova bombs? Energy bombs.

Babylon 5 : In The Beginning - the destruction of the Black Star
Babylon 5 Series - the attack on Corianis IV where Sheridan sets up nuclear bomb mine field to get the attention of the Shadows and the Vorlons
Thermo-nuclear weapons are effectively mini-suns - detonate a suitable yield at a suitable range and they should be effective to at least some degree.
Surprised no one bought up one of the effects of a nuclear device - EMP. So unless your ship has it's full suite of anything electronic or electrical hardened, whilst a nuke going off near you might not destroy your ship, you might find said ship a very quite and dark place afterwards![]()
I do not believe that is the case where B5 is concerned - from the looks of the Corianis 6 Battle the Asteroids were merely staging points to either mask the nuke's presence OR (more likely) to act as visual reference points for manual detonation of the nukes.Nice referencesI think both of those were set up in minefields or asteroid belts (been a while since I saw those)? I think that's the key there, the shockwave would propogate through the asteroidal dust, chunks of rock would get carried along, asteroids smashed. You'd essentially be creating a titanic wave of fast moving debris. I imagine that would be fairly horiffic to experience!
