Why are there only two solutions per firegroup?

Look, it might be because I came here from MechWarrior Online, where players are very used to handling three or even four groups of weapons at the same time. Especially Assault mechs, where autocannon/missiles/lasers are pretty much the standard outfitting in most cases.

So it surprised me that there are only two fire solutions per firegroup in E: D. Not only does it make things unnecessary complicated, it is also really annoying. If I was in a Cobra with standard lasers+MC loadout, if I'm doing it the low-risk way and wanna use hatch breaker, I'll have to either re-profile firegroup mid-flight or switch to another firegroup. It's an unnecessary annoyance even more so on larger ships - it would totally make sense for a three-solution firegroup on an Anaconda: one for class-4 main gun, one for the three class-3 harpoints, one for the rest of smaller hardpoints.

Um, why is there only two then?

It maybe sounded like a good idea during development but I find it hard to believe that they didn't get many, many requests for a better weapons interface than this during alpha and beta testing.

Why is kind of a pointless question here, it requires a time machine and a mind scanner to answer. Better to make a statement about it and a solution than to ask for ancient reasoning. "Hey, this fire solution setup is kind of limited! Let's get something else please."

This is why I want FD to take a good hard look on MechWarrior Online's weapon interface, or at least the part where you bind firegroups. Very simple and easy to use.

Just a wild guess but I'm thinking it probably has to do with trying to keep things at least reasonably competitive for KB/M users that only have a 2 button mouse, i.e. the simplest configuration.

I just re-upped there after two years away. Six firegroups ftw. The binding is a billion times better than the old days where it was all in-match. Man that sucked.

IN WHAT UNIVERSE do mouse nowadays have only two buttons! Left, right and wheel button, that's like...industrial standard, right?

Just an educated guess, it was easier/quicker to implement for a universal solution to all user interfaces, down to a two buttoned mouse.

I imagine it'd be a welcome addition to add more groups.

/just realised Dyseqta had said pretty much the same.

helmstif, I use KB/M... I probably wouldn't have bought the game either if it involved anything other than hardware I currently have (not a dedicated gamer).

My mouse only has 2 buttons. My Macs only had 1. Gamepads have 2 triggers too so the setup makes sense to me. I can't bind anything else to the controller without double shifting buttons. having to switch fire groups helps balance bigger ships.

Ok then. Frontier please allow up to 4 fire buttons in each weapons group!!!! AND WHY DO I HAVE TO ENTER A STUPID IMAGE VERIFICATION EVERYTIME I WANT TO REPLY TO A POST??!!!???

+1 would love more fire groups.

The dinkiest mouse I use has 6-buttons, the gaming mouse I use has 9-buttons (both not counting the stupid scroll left-right + I actually use the 6-button for this game). Get up with the times people! 5-button mice are a dime in a dozen and cheap as hell.

Some people use e.g. xbox controllers and those don't have ginormous number of buttons either.

I really hate pressing the wheel button, though.

Same. It's horrible, and usually results in the wheel turning one way or the other at the same time.

But nonetheless, I'd not mind more configurable fire groups.

It seems as if the ship's computer, UI, controls & fire-groups have been dumbed down for nostalgia.

In many ways Windows 3.1 was more advanced than my ship's computer.

Really? Can you provide some info on that, it sounds interesting.

And yet in use by a small percentage of PC users. Go figure.

Probably due to the misuse of caps lock and punctuation. That's why you're not allowed nice things.

... approach station ... BSOD.
... notice a planet ... BSOD.
... pull trigger ... BSOD.

Yea, would be fun OS for ship's computer.

I just had an image of me frantically pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del trying to boot up to get to a DOS prompt, to stop myself from pitching into a star at the end of a hop.
