Why are we still suffering hacks in this game.

I'm not expecting miracles here, but title says it all. You do realise people do online banking, etc. Listen, I like the game but this is not funny anymore. What is being done.

Because its peer-peer based.

/thread

Edit: Sorry for the short post, not really fair. To continue your banking comparison. It's like trying to control 2 people transferring money to each other when you only get half the information and they pass the rest between them.
Not everything goes to the Frontier Servers and therefore they can't control and monitor everything. For the record they have been identifying and banning players. I read recently that they add a random delay in after detecting hacks to stop the hackers working out what part of their hack is being detected. Interesting stuff really but it all boils down to the Peer-Peer system really which was done on a cost basis iirc as they didn't expect Elite to be quite this big.
Unfortunately thats quite a huge thing to change away from now and whilst possible would rely on continued investment by players buying the next expansion or the paintjobs etc and would take money out of the pool for other things like developer salaries and long term running of the server etc unless it went subscription based.

Report hacks and hackers directly to FD using their support ticketing system. Other than that - all multiplayer games have hackers. Even TF2 - client/server, 8 years into production. ED even more because of p2p nature.

Work with me here, I'm not trolling anyone, seriously curious. Could y'all list hacks people should be reporting cause while I read this I couldn't even tell how exactly people would hack ED.

Due to the peer2peer nature of the game, it's difficult to tell the difference between a hack and lag/desync. Their infinite ammo and shields could just be packet loss.

OP, I don't know what you're referring to because you haven't said. But I would just point out that there are a lot of things that occur in PvP combat that may seem to some like a hack but are in fact the intentional or unintentional consequences of a particular build, tactic, piloting, quirk of the game or de-sync.

(Which is not to say that there aren't hacks, too.)

If you say what's troubling you, you may get some useful feedback either way.

You can never make a game entirely hack-proof, you can only punish people who do hack and discourage people from trying.

Just like how you can never make it physically impossible to cheat at a board game, you can only punish people who do.

And if you're Blizzard with Overwatch, make a lot of people cry in the process (some people were threatening group together to sue because they were banned for hacking, which I find hilarious)

But as was said, I've never seen a hacker, I'd like to know what the OP has witnessed that was evidently clearly hacking.

Until i hear about the rage and death threats from cheat forum users like everyone has seen due to Blizzard's efforts... I'll assume there have been little if any punishment. Ahh ...blizzard.. You let me down with your draconian control over running your own battle.net servers ...but making cheaters cry fills me with so much warmth. Keep it up.

If you think/notice someone is cheating/hacking in the client side, report to FD. Try to record a video to analyze if the CMDR is recharging his shields inmediately (less than a second), counting the missiles he launch, what weapons uses, and if any mod is compatible with those changes. If someone found the way to alter the program memory in the client side, the video will be the best clue to find what he is doing.

"Class action"... Seems like it's taught, along with basic math and English, in elementary school here in the US....

Those that cheat are just cowards and lack the capability to play fairly in the game... probably unable to hold their own in a real fight with a normal user so they have to cheat to get ahead and 'be' somebody. As they are found, hopefully they are banned outright and accounts stripped. No excuses.

No excuses.

My mom keeps making me share all my accounts with my 2 year old brother and he keeps going to *****.com and downloading hacks and stuff. For realzies.

People keep forgetting that it takes money to bring legal action to court.

I suppose there's the principal of the thing, but principles don't pay the bills. At some point if you have enough money to sue a software company you may as well just purchase a motorhome and an Advanced Discovery scanner and go exploring somewhere less procedurally generated.

2 year old brother going to a crack site downloading specific tools... Yea right, and I have a million dollars I am giving away to everyone. That has to be the best load of bull I have read in a long time...
