why can I repair all ship damage with 1 key-press, but paint repair for 10cr needs confirmation?

I can repair hull and module damage in one fell swoop - for tens or hundreds of thousands of credits - with a single key-press.

But my 10 credit paint repair requires confirmation...?

I can understand that paint isn't automatically repaired with everything else - maybe some commanders are going for the dilapidated look.

But an extra confirmation for a 10 credit repair?

I realize there's already too many options in settings - you need a PHD to figure them all out by now. But maybe it would be nice if you could *choose*, that your paint gets repaired along with everything else?

I must waste way too much time (small things add up) on keeping my paint the way I like it - pristine...

Yup. Used to be that paint was included in repair all, but some (like me) prefer the worn paint. So they split it off from the rest.
I acknowledged that choice in my post and did not complain that it was separate.

I only complained that even after clicking on the separate option of paint repair, I have to move down to a confirmation button and then press that too, as opposed to a single press for repairing the much more expensive "everything" option.

This is the history from what I have heard. I wasn't there when this all happened so take what I say with a grain of salt, but this is what I have gathered from the forums:

Repair costs were initially MUCH higher than they are now. So high that it was more cost effective to sell a damaged ship and rebuy it than it was to repair it in the worst cases. So the devs decreased repair costs and added something else called ship integrity. Ship integrity cost a lot more than hull integrity to repair, but didn't directly impact your ship's suitability, it went down as a result of general ship wear and tear not just combat damage, and if it was repaired at low levels of damage it was much cheaper per % than if you waited until you had a lot of damage. At low ship integrity your hull was less effective, and ship integrity also determined the state of your ships paint. Ship integrity is NOT repaired with repair all and is instead only repairable from advanced maintenance. Some people didn't like the fact that paint was tied to integrity, as they either wanted a fresh paint job without repairing ship integrity or they wanted a damaged paint look but didn't want to have low ship integrity. So the devs separated pait job and ship integrity. As for why paint job requires a conformation, I'm guessing that's just a relic from when repair costs were really high so advanced maintenance had a confirmation button to prevent people from spending a lot of credits on an accidental repair.

They should probably rework the whole ship integrity, hull integrity, module integrity and paint integrity system and make it more streamlined and efficient.

1 button to scan entire system, deep scan planet, jump to warp, shoot, trade, etc but 7* buttons to request docking (gameplay reasons no less), and the most convoluted way of moving / buying / selling ship modules I've ever witnessed - are you sure, are you really sure, are you really really sure?**

** Exaggeration used for effect

I think because of some people like the old tattered look. You know after a long Exploration trip or a combat.

You got that right. The only time paint gets repaired on my ships is if, or when, they get destroyed.

.............. a sort of romantic, merchant marine, ships at sea type of thing I suppose (blah, blah, blah)........

Even more fun is when buying goods with that + - mechanic rather than simply typing in how many of that item you wish to buy

Say "thank you" to the consoles. For them it's easier to hold a button/trigger and select desired amounts of goods rather than clicking the field and inputting the value. For devs it's easier to downgrage PC to consoles input levels than developing 2 different versions.

exactly this, and all them blahs too

then give poeple an option to request that confirmation and one to autorepair it without request. Making most people having to click extra because of a few people isn't how good game design works.

Not just consoles - those people with VR on PC have the same issue (well, they probably have a keyboard somewhere, but it's not as if they can see it). The whole game's designed around not having to take your hands off the stick so you can control all the menus that way.

(Which is all well and good - I'm told ED is great in VR - but a separate input method for people using a mouse and keyboard would be nice too. Of course, twice as much work...)

My Dolphin (Izabel) never leaves dock without an extra shiny shine up and chamois turtle wax from the repair screen. I suppose I needn't bother but (does roleplay) doing a special job for first class passengers.

This. My all-economy Passengaconda looks like it's been dropped in a cement mixer, but my luxury Orca is kept pristine.

The answer to this is simple. Some people like the wear others don't. So let us have the option to mod our paints with self repairing nano machine tech for the people who don't appreciate constantly topping off on 10 credits of turtle wax.

FDev likely bombarded with requests to recover modules "I didn't mean to sell".
