Why can't I buy standard Cobra parts where I bought the Cobra?

Apologies if this is a stupid question but, why can't I buy standard Cobra parts at the Cobra station?

I bought a Cobra, which came with level 4 shields, but decided to fit it out for trading with 60 cargo slots. Some time later I decided to change my setup, and went back to where I bought the Cobra, but no leve 4 shields were sold there.

I then tried to buy a new Cobra, but got the message 'You cannot buy a Cobra, as you own a Cobra'.

In the end, I sold my Cobra for a Sidewinder, then sold the Sidewinder for a new Cobra with the shields.

WOuldn't it be easier if places that sold ships also sold the standard components for those ships?

I'd bet it's a bit of a case like with car dealers - sure, they got the cars, but that doesn't necessarily mean they have parts for them (nor repair facilities).

This isn't the game for you, you're far to clever. This is 'space trucking for dummies'

A station might get a delivery of ships (possibly second hand) but not stock parts for them, think of a basic second hand car dealer. Didn't know you can't buy a different ship of the same type though, that's a pity, I wouldn't mind having a few Cobras kitted out for different things.

I think this is only a limitation if you are buying the same ship type you currently pilot AND try to replace (not store) your current ship. Otherwise, at least in different stations, you can have many ships of the same type. I've had 3 Haulers at one point (all were in different stations).

I usually glance at the shipyard on my travels, and ones that have like 6 or more different ships usually have fairly decent parts as well. Certainly if you sell a top class item at a 2-ship starport, it won't be there for long

Search for a nearby Hitech system in your home area where you can buy most of the ships and most equipment. You only need to buy them once and won't lose equipment on death if you rebuy
