Why can't I find my brother in game?

My brother and I are at the same space station at the same time but I can't find him.

We're on different servers I assume.

I logged out and back in numerous times and retuned to the same station (with the hopes of being randomly placed on the same server) and he's not there.

How do we meet in game?

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
There is an instance cap in the game, and you may not be matched with someone else depending on how 'busy' your instance already is. If the station you're at is in a busy part of the galaxy it may have a full instance already.

What you might want to do is add your brother to your in-game 'friends' list, as this should help encourage matching you and him together in the same instance. Also try meeting up in a less populated system. Hope that helps!

i have found it easier for xbox to find ur friends near stars instead of docks, both of yall jump to the same system and remain in super cruise near a star it shouldnt take long

Just backing out to the menu doesn't seem to change the server. I would recommend one, or both of you exiting out of the game entirely, and reloading it. That's the only way I've been able to get it to work (if we're not on the same server to begin with). You may have to try it a couple of times. Kind of inconvenient but I'm sure they'll have a fix of some sort before the full release.

I don't think you can add people to your in game friends list yet on Xbox live, can you?

It really sucks that it's so difficult to wing up with people on your friends list. I realise that this is in preview mode but xbox is all about the party system.

Why would it be easier to find someone near a star rather than a space station too? This doesn't make much sense to me.

Thanks

i don't think it would matter. At the main menu it says what server your on. If your not both in the same one then your simply not going to see him. Keep exiting to dashboard and back in is the only thing I can tell you. Until your both in the same server #

This will be good to know if FD ever actually puts the "Friends list" feature on the XB1.

Till then I'm afraid the OP is out of luck.

Again, I don't believe it tells you what server you're on with the Xbox version. Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

As another member has mentioned, there is no in-game friends list with the Xbox version.

I have (along with many others on the Xbox forum) explained the current method in order to meet up with friends on Xbox LIVE. Check the forums for the explanation, or send me a friend request over Xbox LIVE in order to get assistance. My GT is Commander JCM. :)
(Edit: If you're sending me a friend request, also send me a message about where you found me and what you want, so I know the situation.)

You mean zoning in and out till you get lucky?

No thanks, that's a broken system which shouldn't be encouraged.

Well, then, you don't really wish for them to meet in-game. Co-Op is fun. All it requires is a not-so-populated starport/outpost and they're pretty much good. If it doesn't work, then one would try that method as a free alternative. If not that, one must use the paid method and meet up in Frame Shift Drive and force an instance between them by using a Frame Shift Drive Interdiction Tether. (Paid as in having to use a bit of credits to try and get a dependable form of meeting, the Interdiction Tether.) Don't just think that it's only the leave-and-try again method. There are multiple ways to meet up rather than that. :p

Could you please provide a link to where you have explained the fix?

I play with a couple of friends, we usually pick a system and one of us to jumps into the nav beacon orbiting the sun there, then the others jump into the system and do the same. Works almost every time.

Switching between solo play and open will also put you on a new sever. Saves time instead of reloading the game. But yea, playing with friends is a pain and probably will be till the full release.

What do you do when this doesn't work? That hasn't worked for us

It's a bit of an older method, because I fixed it. (Explained in my post in our current thread) Here's the link: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=160406&p=2448317
As I said, it's a bit old, and you might already be trying it. I have revamped it though, it involves Interdiction and whatnot in my new method. ;)

Fair enough if you want to do that. I wouldnt call it much of a solution or method as it's unreliable and by the time you've done it you would want to claw your own eyes out.

They need to do better than this. Also a lot of the advice seems to be pc specific.

keep one of you at the nav beacon instance then the other jumps to a different system then back again....

We have recently moved into more player populated areas and have noticed it takes a few attempts to get us into the same instance. If you're having problems you might want to pick a system that doesn't appear to have any other comnanders
