Why cant i get my joypad to rumble

The pc version doesn't (and never has) supported rumble.
you know I could have swore black and blue it used too when the beta was 50 ly across?
I seem to maybe have a false memory of it doing so coming out of the letter box though that may well just have been my subwoofer
