Engineers Why can't I just buy modded weapons and modules?

I'll gladly pay a hefty premium, I'm not grinding anymore.

Life is short.

:x

edit: don't forget it would push rebuy costs up, anyone going the current route would be much better off... if they want to invest the time.

Just my opinion, it would be nice to have a choice.

Look at it this way: how would WoW look like when you could buy the latest Tier X items from simply gold without the need of ever raiding/earning them. That wouldnt feel right.

Agreed, these are items that should be tradeable between players. Without some kind of storage it is a binary choice: Grind or don't grind.

That's a bit "If you don't like it, you can get out" for me.

What an inane thing to say.

The principle is exactly the same - repeating the same actions to get the new stuff.

Engineers is a grind mechanism because as yet there is actually nothing new to do.

The principle isn't the same because you've got lucrative reward for group accomplishment vs lucrative reward for repeating mundane activities.

They are both repeating content to get something, but not all content is equal.

wow lets players craft things and then put them on auction house for other players to bid on - if you price it right. i did that many times to get the gold i needed and level smithing and mining etc. elite could do that. let the miners mine and the combateers combat and the ones who have space for an srv use it and get the mats... then let them sell the mats to other players at an auction house. or the mods the engineers make for them. part of the price of materials might be to cover the miner while they work in open that kind of thing. or watch the players ship and protect it while they roam around blasting.

The game would be short too, as the wealthy Elite, some of which who short-cutted their way to top ships through mission stacking Robigo style, would also be power-elite. They'd also be a bored Elite because they'd have used up the potential of the Engineers in a short time.

The Engineers are there to encourage balance in the game; to get away from this mindset of trying to become all powerful in the most powerful ships as fast as you can, and encourage players to explore, gather materials, deal with upgrades at a slower, more in-game realistic state. The rush to get powerful is the grind, not the Engineers. Take them as part of the world, and they're fun. Yes, I'd like to see some changes (modules to store limited amounts of material (even 5 items would be good), but the grind isn't the Engineers, it is the players looking to the Engineers to get a powerfully modded ship fast. These things are meant to take time as part of enjoying a wider universe.

I would be good if there was a market where players could sell or trade their augmented modules. Perhaps even sell entire modded ships. That would be cool.
This way "salvagers" could make a living out of it, and people who prefer to spend their time doing other activities could still enjoy modded stuff.

agree, it would be good if we could land on planets with atmosphere and also go underwater too. All good ideas.

edit: sorry, I thought it was the suggestions forum :p

Yeah OP!

And why can't I just buy exploration data for the entire galaxy from the market and then hand it in for immediate credit gains and insta-Elite rating!

Better yet, why can't I just buy bounties to hand in to manipulate BGS factors?!?

Or data and materials, I totally should be able to just fly somewhere and buy all of that stuff without having to do pesky stuff like do the associated activities!

Frontier don't understand that if we've spent the last 2 years camping res sites and killing zombie AI and have a billion credits or more, that we totally should be able to just buy anything we want from current and all future content additions without having to do something as mundane as play the actual game... playing the game is for no-lifers. Those of us with jobs totally should have a means to get everything without playing, otherwise it's not fair on those that don't want to play the game!

Did you forget the sarcasm tag for that?

How is there balance with NPCs who have fully kitted out ships before us?
Or people with no live and being able to grind for hours flying ships that are way more powerful than anything you can buy on the market.

And as far as I have read over various other complaints, it seems to be quite easy to just hack the client to give you godpowers.

There was never balance in the game, with playerkillers in fully kitted out ships camping in starting systems shooting every little Sidewinder in sight, and being proud of that achievement.

The missing balance and not being able to go to a PVE zone is what drove a good part of the players int private groups or solo play.

As I said already the core game was not intended for crafting that is why it feels so stuck on.

If I remember right way back during the first open tests people asked if players in Elite would be able to craft items, and David himself said no as this is not the scope of the game.

Um, if you are doing the same thing over and over again you are grinding.

Arguably getting materials etc is less grinding since you have to do different things like base attack missions, mining, combat, scanning etc.

If they were purchasable for credits literally no one would do the materials gathering, they'd just grind the current best moneymaking activity some more.

omg what is this??

I imagine that regular spaceports dont sell modded or aftermarket modifications.

Just like a regular store like Phonehouse or similar would not sell jailbreaked phones.
