Are you using SC-Assist ? That will just put you in orbit. Maybe if you explained :
a) What you are doing - i.e. how are you trying to land
b) What is happening.

I've tried looking it up on EDDB and Inara, can't find it.

Pic shows him currently in a sidey, and given he hasn't worked out the depot system yet that's probably the ship he's in - so not the pads. It will be something simple - don't think he's realised there are tutorial videos in the game, so he's finding the simple things difficult

He may be in the starter systems and maybe EDDB etc don't have information on those.

Is this the ground one where it's so close to another that the first option in contacts is the other place?
I went there and was told I could not dock, due to using muscle memory to just pick the first thing in the contacts list. If it's that, check you're applying to the right port!
