Why cant I land on The Moon?

Back when Horizons went live I did not really play much around with it and soon after went into a year long elite hiatus; I think I didnt even have Sol permit back then and did not even notice.

However, recently I spent a lot time in the Sol system transporting tourists and.... AND.... what the *insert appropriate curse to express major disappointment here* is up with the Moon?
Why cant I land on the Moon!?!

I don't recall the details, but FD said it would not be available when landing started, I think as it is so well researched they want it to be accurate before it becomes available to land on, possibly there are story ideas involved?

The moon is fully covered in infrastructure in 3303, so Frontier said. Once they have integrated cities on surfaces, we will land on the moon - and most likely get out of the ship and grab a drink in Lunas latest hotspot bar...

also i remember it being said that the moon would be handcrafted so it matches the one we see most nights (but with a lot more structures on it :) )

They are having a temporary cheese shortage. The moon is closed until they can breed enough space cows to make up the shortfall.

I wish there were more planets in Elite's galaxy which looked something like Earth's moon. White-ish in color with various shades of subsurface grays all over it, including some very contrasting dark colors. No planets generated by the stellar forge have that kind of interesting surface makeup to them. Too many planets with no atmosphere in Elite are monotone, and if our own solar system is anything to go by then the real galaxy is far more interesting to look at.
