I'm trying to get back to LHS 3447 but it will not allow me to plot a course. I got to where I am from that system, how is it possible that I can not return to it?

have you loaded up on cargo? it could now be beyond your jump range if you've filled your hold.

I hit this once. I loaded up 3 aluminium for a board order and couldn't jump back. It's your mass.
It won't let you use more than .6 tons of fuel per jump. Even if you have more than enough fuel, it will only use so much per jump and that starting ship won't get you back if you overload it. Sometimes you can do this with multiple jumps, choosing shorter distances per jump, other times you're just hosed. Check the map carefully and see if there is a path back in smaller increments. It's a pain but can work.

was it a single jump you used to get to where you are or was it a series of jumps? if it was a series, you might not have enough fuel to make all the jumps, or it may be that the distace is over 50ly, which apparently causes the in game map issues plotting a course on.

If you want to try to "force" the galaxy map into plotting you a course, try hitting LHS 3447 and then zooming between the two locations plotting out the connected systems inbetween. Sometimes then the game will suddenly have a course for you, where before it didn't
