Why can't I see my targets speed?

Why can't I see my targets speed?
I can see to the percentage point the hull integrity of another ship, but not its speed? even approx would be better than nothing.
Also its kinda a rip from x3 but a button to match target speed would be really helpful.

Seeing target speed could be an interesting data to be available at certain size sensors, but not really needed.

Regarding match speed it gets more complicated as ships and modules combinations all have different thrust responses both main and auxiliary.
But my main concern is it would defeat a part of the "combat flight" game play, don't you think ?

Proper use of ALL thrust possibilities is part of the combat learning curve.

I disagree completely, if I could see a target's speed I can match it manually.
And if you think I have not mastered the combat learning curve come meet me and find out.

Thats another piece of info that would be nice to have. Why not in a 1300 years into the future advanced spaceship. Match speed or see the speed. I rather see the speed for more use of skill. I added more things for awareness that i feel is missing. Link in my signature.

Anyway, to get back on track, yes the targets speed would be a bliss of an addition.

I have made the suggestion of having a closure rate, but that was basically shut down because they do not want to clutter the HUD with too much stuff and basically keep it simple.

It's a pretty crappy decision, but that's just my personal feeling towards it, so I just sucked it up and accepted that this is the way they want it.

Because radars in 3300 cannot measure anyone's speeds. That also explains why there's no fine for speeding inside stations - the sacred knowledge of speed measuring radars that cops used in 20th century is lost forever...

Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. You either know where the ship is or how fast it is going; not both.

:D

Speed relative to what? If you pick a fixed point (say the largest sun - the one you jump in by) you could show the speed as a function of distance from that point... except if the ship was orbiting that sun - it's speed would show as zero. You could show speed relative to you... but again that doesn't give you the whole picture... the other ship could be flying in a different heading so the relative speed may be small (you're not getting closer to them or further from them very quickly) but their actual speed may be very fast.
