Why can't I use my keyboard

The Elite Dangerous interface has steadily changed each update and is becoming more and more frustrating. The most resent update has changed how we buy cargo in the commodities market and now it is SO slow. I have to ask the question why I can't just type in the amount of cargo I want to purchase and press enter? Much more logical and it'll be so much quicker!

Are you, perhaps, a horse?

I imagine it'd be very difficult for a horse to use a keyboard.

Yes OP, typing in the required number into a box would be the most appropriate way of buying and selling. I'm really surprised it hasn't been adopted. FD are doing it the hard way.

The 'patch notes' for the next patch say they are going to default to 'max' for the sell dialog, we're getting there slowly.

But anyway, can we get back to the horse chat plz 🐴 🐎 🏇

So how would this work for players NOT using keyboards then? Like
  • Console players that mostly only use gamepads
  • HOTAS players
  • Players using VR - have you missed their repeatedly asking for soft keyboard option?

If you have not considered this, then why should others care about this then?

It would be a sensible option to type in the number req.

Don't mention horses, Jenner will rise up with his My Little Pony obsession and totally derail the thread with wierd pony pics.

Typing the desired number isn't very console friendly, but a 'Buy Max' button should be relatively intuitive even for those scrubby console players :ROFLMAO:

I have a keyboard for my console (or more accurately, for the controller - they are really quite neat). :) Even if I didn't, I suspect it is still a lot quicker to use the screen keyboard to type than to use the arrows in the market UI. Mind you, I don't play E: D on the console, as I also have VR...

And to be clear, I agree that "Buy Max" is a better idea. :)

I'd suggest buying some stomp switches (like for guitars) and mapping them to whatever keyboard keys your hooves are having trouble with.

Have you considered that it could work just like it works now, because only the middle box needs to be converted into input box?

I use a HOTAS and VR, and have no problems with my keyboard. But then, as I've already mentioned, I also have a keyboard for my console(s). Keyboards are useful, every gadget should have one!

A bit off topic maybe but a genuine question none the less...
How does console players search for systems in galaxy map? By using the virtual keyboard that is present on consoles?
