Ships Why can't it launch fighters?

It's actually not just marginally narrower, and in addition, the clipper hull's cross section is semi-circular while the gunship's is more rectangular, allowing for way more internal volume. Look, I'm a big fan of imperial ships, I own them all and I prefer them to fed stuff for the most part (will have to get the 'vette at some point, though..), and I particularly love the Clipper, have owned one for a very long time and played a lot in it. I neither think the hangar bay actually does fit, nor do I think this ship needs one, balance wise. I'd much prefer it if they added a single utility slot, that'd do a lot more for the ship than the SLF hangar.

I said a few posts back that I am on board with the iClipper not having one, but you tell me that the iClipper is physically smaller by enough to not fit the bay that gets rammed into a keelback.

You're right it doesn't need it. Anything physical is handwavium - this time in the image of "SLF capable ships have the hangar built in already". I thought that was a reasonable explanation until it was announced that SLFs will take up internal space.

So all SLF capable ships have...is a square hole cut in them going into one of the internal slots. Last I checked there are C5, C6 and C7 SLFs. You want to tell me the iClipper can't manage them? 'cos it looks like it can handle even the double sized ones from here.

But no, iClipper doesn't need it. The only reason there's an issue is Fed supporers get two varied SLF ships while the Imps have to save up for a damn cutter.
