Why can't we dump fuel?

Buy a rail gun or plasma accelerator with plasma slug mod. Problem solved. ;)

I think it's silly that modern aircraft can dump fuel, yet your spaceship needs a magic wizard to enchant your weapon.

....& I think we should be able to ignite the dumped fuel with our weapons! :D ............... oh wait, no oxygen in space :p, well it would work in atmosphere, when we can get into those! ;)

Plasma Slug - What does this use, like .0001% of your fuel per shot? I've put Plasma Slugged Rails on a Dolphin and never noticed any impact.
I run 3 Plasma Slugged PA's on a Beluga (Ok, so the Beluga has a fuel tank the size a Type-7 to begin with but still...)
I've even run a Plasma Slugged PA on an FdL, which has a fuel tank smaller than an escape pod, and haven't noticed any significant fuel consumption.

Of course, one could simply fire off a few volleys of Fuel Transfer Limpets...

that was a joke, actually :D

however, jumping to a nearby system and back will do the trick in under a minute.

It will but I suspect OP is wanting to dump fuel to jump at his maximum single jump range, so he's probably going to want to be doing it in areas where the stars are sparse to begin with.

Well, our ships use fuel to power the powerplants, which are fusion reactors. It takes hydrogen and combines it into helium, same process as stars (more or less). There is no combustion in the powerplant.

Exactly. I just find it weird that these supposedly high tech ships, can't spew out a bit of fuel into the void.

Sue me.
