Newcomer / Intro Why can't we land on the Moon in SOL?

1) several areas were declared as protected ancient monuments - the areas around the US moon landings in the 20th century.
2) although there is a sizeable population, the whole moon was permit locked to prevent any smuggling or intelligence operations. It's believed that there are considerable planetary defences, primarily to protect earth.
3) there are, of course, a number of flights into and out of permit locked locations, these are managed and planned by the local controlling factions.
4) there's a rumour that the Children of Raxlaa are hidden inside some permit locked planets/systems
(Well there is now!)

The Moon Treaty of 2687 gave the moon to their indigenous life in perpetuity - and added the permit.

Yup. you'd get loads of CMDRs moaning that it didn't look like the real photos online.
And every single new probe that lands on the moon would elicit a 'where is that probe?' thread. Oh jeez, I bet we never get to land there or Mars ... though I guess at least with Mars they can say it was lost during the terraforming :)

An alternate answer is that after the moon returned to orbit in the 21st century it turned out the Alphans had been keeping records and samples during their trip.
So every time someone they don’t like the look of attempts to land they release a very dense temporary atmosphere which messes up the planetary approach suite and aborts the landing.

You allow landing on the moon, and some... person in an SRV comes along and draws.... interesting things for view from Earth.
