why can't we set 1-2-3 pips on pips management?

I got an easy way for you.

Reset, then put 4 pips in what you want to ultimately have 1. Now add 4 pips to what you want to ultimately have 3, now add 2 pips to what you want to have 2. You're done. Just remember 1 first, then 3, then 2.

:D I trust you know what I'm asking about.

but why?

You can. First set up a 2-0-4 situation (easy) where you want a 1-2-3 end state. Then add 2 pips to the “0” system.

Thanks for posting this... its been annoying me wanting 1 2 3, cant wait to get home tomorrow and get my pips sorted.... virtual high five for you cmdr..... o7

yea but I'm not talking about pips pre set...

I'm asking about literal 1-2-3 pips on the pips system, we can't do it, what we can do is 1-2.5-2.5 pips, or 0.5-2-3.5 pips or several other combinations involving .5 pip.

that is super weird.

so why can't we have 1-2-3?
Good question, would be a handy setting, I'm sure it can be done, but never really thought about it.

edit - missed a few posts, seems to be a solution.

I do all my power management from a G13 pad, where I've programmed the keys to set the pips the way I want. It's a beautiful thing.

Yup, I can set it up on Powergrid, or the Warthog software, but still makes no sense why we can have it as an actual part of the game.

I always wondered why scanners aren't fitted into ship sensors. The basic sensor can detect the status of the selected ship, surely an upgrade should warrant scan etc. Oh well...

Yeah i brought this up a couple times before.
I think it should just be an upgrade to ships computer or you by a scanner controller which on fits in 1 slot and you can add say 3 scanners into it.

With the TM-16000 top hat I can easily set my pips however I want, with one stroke downward being a reset to 2-2-2. You just go side to side a few times to go 3-0-3 and so forth. With the control right at your thumb, you can fiddle with it a lot and figure it out pretty quickly.

I'd like to be able to get that 7th pip without needing a multicrew

All pip types r possible, it’s just a bit fiddly

Exactly. This is why FDev should implement a way to preset a bunch of pip-distributions... in combat there's simply no time to fiddle around to get the pip-setting we actually want, so most players are probably using third-party macro software to achieve this.

But they want you to sit there and constantly press buttons!

Yeah, seriously, I love this game, but someone has a love for 1980's style games where the controller was your enemy.

I totally agree with this...its like the "Request Docking" situation...why not hot key/key bind?
Instead you have to perform a long sequence of key presses to get the right result...

Starting with the reset to 2-2-2 button though and then using the required sequence of key presses it is possible to set up Macros's for your preferred pre-sets...I've got 420,042,024 preset as shifted functions on the same hat switch as I have the individual pip mgmt controls
