Why can't we shoot the pilot???

Even if you break the canopy of a vessel (my main target at most times) you can't shoot the pilot and knock out the vessel...I have shot Lasers, high calibre bullets, missiles, PA bolts and more through the canopy of NPC vessels and still nothing. do NPC vessels actually loose their canopy at all??!!

I would like to suggest a more realistic approach to combat...the most important part to any vessel is the person flying/driving it...without that the vessel is useless.

this would also put an end to "face-tank"( as people have called it) tactics with NPC vessels.

So what if you die easier? that's life and survival for you... I don't agree that it is fair for it to be in sub targets though. Hitting the pilot should be through skill not cheap computer tactics.

Take care fellow commanders!

They do lose their canopy. That's just never visible from the outside. But evident with high waking or them blowing up after 5 minutes similar to losing life support.

I don't think worrying about physical commander damage is interesting for elite though.

That's life mate...

You get shot, you get shot...now it seems a focused blast of a laser just passes through you and you just sit there and bathe in the immense radiation... I bet cancer is really high in the future I take it..

Maybe all the pilots originate from Krypton and bullets and lasers just bounce off them... :D

Now i dont agree that ypur pilot should get shot and killed. But if you manage to fire weapons inside the cockpit through the broken glass. It should have a greater chance of doing module damage.

Try taking out an external utility some time. Those are larger than humans.

Hitting a target that small isn't any fun. Neither the attempt nor the fatal consequence.

Not to mention our suits are supposed to have wound/limb loss sealing ability (at least early concept art implies that). So to be reasonable/perfectly accurate you would have to simulate even smaller targets (body parts) being damaged/individually torn off. And then it's flying on without either throttle or stick.

How would any of that happening pretty randomly be any fun? For the sake of not having any ridiculously annoying mechanics it's easier to assume that hitting such a small target is too rare for you to encounter that situation.

SC can pull this off because they are already modelling FPS damage and have many smaller ships (fighter sized) manoeuvring/fighting on smaller scales.

Now that is a better approach!...for now anyway.

nothing is shielded through there so there is nothing stopping a stray rail round going through and wiping out the whole ship Muhaha :D :D

nuh... I just thought it was a good idea to be more realistic that's all :(

It is, but only within reason.

Elite weapons have calibres that would eradicate a human and scales that don't make this a skilled shot, but a random event. (sub targeting for example only works because even fixed weapons have ~.5 ° auto targeting)
