Why did I stop playing?

i think you are plying it for the wrong reasons....
and you clearly want to be hand-held or play a storyline.

lacking imagination.

Imagination lol. That's the excuse all the fanboyz use to defend the lack of content. It's all I and everyone else has seen from the very beginning/early beta and until now. Beta it was acceptable because hey, wait until release they will have better missions etc. lol A big nope on that. But yeah use your imagination. You'll need a hell of a lot of it. since there is only like 8 or 9 generic missions, 7 stations, and the same damn 5 different uss's in all of the 400 billion systems. Your imaginations all need to be on overload. go go imaginations. Of course non of the fanboyz will admit it would really be nice to have missions with mini story lines that get you involved and are branched to a specific goal. And not just one. unbelievable that they say "nah the game is perfect the way it is" LOL seriously had that answer for that question about adding missions with story lines.

Right now I'm using this relatively content-lacking period to just trade and build up my wealth, so that one day, I can be da real MVP.

I agree with the OP about lack of PvE challenge beyond the Cobra, and have said basically the same several times on these forums. However, the reasons I have not stopped playing:

1) I believe(/hope) the game will add more content (and by that I mean actual depth and life to the universe, not just more template choices for the random encounters and missions), and…

2) …until then I still find it enjoyable to come up with some challenges for myself (e.g., switch back to an Eagle and try bounty hunting then).

3) Despite all my complaints about the game, it has tremendous potential and I want to help make it better, i.e., I play and complain because I care about it.

Option 1 is not feasable for me personally and many others because of internet connection.
Also, although open play is where you go to find other players, I am put off by the fact that there seems to be a lot of hate against those of us who would do that. Also combat-logging seems to be common. I mean, why play in open if you don't want to be hunted or hunt?

Option 2 is great, I personally do this, but it is evading the fact that ED has this massive problem at the moment, which is that there is nowhere or nothing dangerous in the game, once you have a tooled up ship and a HOTAS, at least.
I can say some combat is challenging if you do it on a laptop with kb/mouse but that is not the challenge I am looking for.

edit - I should point out that the game HAS been challenging in the past. The combat scenarios in alpha and early beta were exciting and challenging.

1. True, combat logging is kinda deal breaker

2. Yes after seeing some peoples post about going to the middle of galaxy, I will definetly do that. But yes, its sad there is no real danger. I know its hard to put some kind of the unknown danger into the game like alien race or super exciting natural phenomenom/anomaly, but this would be really cool, and it would really give strength to word: Dangerous.

I got interdicted by an NPC and when I saw it was an Imperial Clipper my first thought was "oh crap". But I tried anyways and I dominated it so badly, it was ridiculous, in a viper. I mean, no challenge whatsoever. And my viper wasn't even that upgraded.

I actually enjoy space trucking in my Type-9.

I enjoy ramming shieldless haulers at the gate "No, not like this!" they say.

I enjoy seeing other traders on my routes, waving and saying hi. Watching different docking "techniques".

I just enjoy sandbox games. I've spent hundreds of hours in them.
For me, I'm the story, and I'm loving
every
minute.

My Ultimate To Do List:
  • Anaconda (I'm close)
  • Trade a billion to get elite trader.
  • Elite in exploring / combat.
  • Allied with all 3 major factions. Federation down, 2 to go.
  • Max military rank in Empire and Federation
  • Have enough credits to buy each of the new ships when they come out, if possible.
  • Reach center of galaxy and back.

That will keep me busy over the next 6 months. I'm very excited about Wings coming out next month too. If you're bored just take a break and come back when Wings is released.

Fly safe commanders!

Hmm pretty interesting list, but it includes all possible goals and achievements in game so far :)

Come back and do it in an Eagle. I'm in a Viper now, just taken out my first Anaconda, once I'm over confident I'll downgrade, and again if need be, best way to get better. You can take out anything in a Cobra

i just reached the same point last night. instead of my own rant thread, i might as well use this one:

FD seems to think longevity comes from frustrating the hell out of players. i have put up with their incompetence, breaking promises (offline single player), increasing the prices of ships and parts to the stage where it makes no sense to save up for the bigger ships (which is the only real dynamic in the game), stuffing up releases (thanks for the 2 hour break smack in the middle of my gaming time last night simply because they couldn't bring a server back up!).

To add to all that, spent £10 on asp skins just because you can see the hull from the cockpit on that ship only to find that applying a skin doesn't change the color you see out of the cockpit (and the pilot LOD is wrong). anyway, i am happy to put all that to incompetence and lack of quality control and move on but then i discovered that the patch also stuffed up my home base that took weeks to find! I had picked the system (and have 4 ships parked there) because it always had all the upgrades i use and now it doesn't.

I am quiet sick of helping a company that has no regard for its customers and looks like history will repeat itself and elite will become irrelevant as soon as SC is released. There are only so many fanatics that will put up with being spat on constantly. I have finally reached my limit and will spend my gaming time playing games that are designed to be fun for players. stuff this train wreck of a "game" (unpaid work would be more appropriate) that is no fun and all frustration regardless of how hard you try to look on the bright side; they just won't stop trying to make the game as frustrating as possible.

Well said, i wish i had never heard of Elite Dangerous let alone spend £50 to back it, all i have got is a ton of disappointment! I play the game in a hope i will reap £50 of fun and quite frankly wish i took my £50 to poundland!

Dont get me wrong the concept is amazing but the game isnt the concept is it! God knows why they released it when its not ready, oh sorry we do know its all about the money NOT the vision!

I play E: D in between Destiny, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Gat out of Hell, eVolve (beta), and Path of Exile.

In E: D I have 50k in the bank and just bought a Hauler for the giggles (I find trading a bit too dull to manage it for more than 3 beers at a time). I've been playing since premium beta.

Yeah, I got to a Type 6 before one of the wipes in beta, but that was full on "420 trade every day" territory and I didn't have much fun doing it. Now I just do whatever I feel like when I log on, maybe haul a bit, get bored, switch to the eagle and shoot some fools, get shot, respawn in station and then go fly around aimlessly looking at planets, before accidentally exploding while attempting to fuel scoop while intoxicated (FSWI).

Progressive microgoals (and the endorphines released on realisation you have completed a goal) are how you get players addicted to a game, but it requires the devs to set the game up to have those easily achievable microgoals. Dragon Age does that admirably, but it ain't no E: D where I can literally just do whatever takes my fancy ^^;

Sometimes I just like to tool about with no set agenda and see what happens. E: D fills that niche perfectly :D

mmhh, am i wrong or are just the goons doing it right ??

pvp cost money, go for pvp loose some ships and then see if anaconda was the big boss.. then you discover, darn my cobra cant kill an adder in pvp, since you fitted for pve and have no clue how to fight an intelligent player instead of a KI mob.
as soon you getting better in skill you might find a clan and you get involved in bigger fights, where multible player fight eachother.. elite just needs skill to do so ;-)

Hmm interesting, but I agree xD

haven`t played for a while. Won`t I get wanted if I attack players? If yes, then what is good method for hunting players that are not wanted?
