Why did you kill me?

The game is called Elite: Dangerous ;) if there weren't occasional pirates coming after me, I'd want my money back :D

Easy kills, explorers out there are sitting ducks and aren't likely to fight back.

You can literally just log at the site, then log on, kill everyone, then log off again for a few jollies.

Well you see.
Some People just dont have any Joy in Life.
<Badgering>
Hence they Randomly Kill People in Games which allow that.

Best Stay out of Open.
There is no meaningful interaction with other Commanders anyways. So aside from PvP there is no real sense in being in Open.

Some people just like killing stuff. They are free to do what they want or find enjoyable. Why someone do/enjoy canyon racing, or other races in elite or hunt for alien stuff etc.? Thing doesn't need to give you in game benefit to be fun. Some people like to engineer their ship to be able to kill other players as fast as possible and then test their builds. Others just like blowing stuff. Its open world without rules were you are allowed to do what ever you want. And then some come and complain when others do that and play the game as they want.

Killing and dying is part of the game.Learn how to defend yourself. Some players love to kill other cmdrs for no reason, thats also part of the game.ED will not save you from them,it will send even more bloodthirsty npc's after you constantly.

If you're pledged to Winters and you're doing things in Alliance space I'm kinda obliged to have a go, but I'll probably be in a cobra with Grade 2 mods, so don't sweat it.

Thats why everyone Plays Solo Mode while the Open Mode in Elite will always remain an Empty Space with no Future.

If you're wanted and I think I can take you, I'll kill you.
If you attack me and either I can't run (for whatever reason) or I think I have a reasonable chance of succeeding, I'll kill you.
If you're harshing my buddies, I'll kill you.
If you're working for "the other guys" - whether that's working against my chosen local faction or on the other side of a CG or whatever - then if I can find a legal way to do it, I'll kill you.

Other than that, though, I'll keep the hardpoints stowed if you do.

Some people just like seeing the world burn.
And it's easier to burn virtual world than ours...

Also some people are just bored and need something to do with their sothisvettes.

It's highly unlikely the griefers will post on the official forums as they are generally cowards which will usually combat log when they face a CMDR in a well equipped ship, they like beating on noob cmdrs because they are no threat to them.

Like in real life, people like to intimidate others and trying to show their strength. But mostly, due to compensation of a disability, like SDS. Short D..k Syndrome. This is quite common in Germany. You see those SDS guys on the highways, mostly driving a Porsche, tailgating and behaving awkward...Lol...Btw I am German, but not driving a Porsche. ;-)

Wow. SMH. I dont like griefing, but this is a horrible attitude to have to Open PvP. The OP did not even mention griefing, or repeated killing, in their post.

Obviously not, otherwise the OP would not have been asking the question. If you want to have a rant, why not go to the Open vs PvP Megathread, where this post will eventually get dumped and forgotten? :)

Thanks for all the kind responses. It's been hard for me to understand the motivations of players that don't type in the chat before they kill you. This thread is going to help me (and many others) understand the reasoning behind their behavior in game.

If I did go in for that kind of play, I'd at the very least have a macro assigned with the phrase "Muhahahahah!" to fire off. Because I think that would be classy.

Well you will be really        when they start typing stuff as they kill you, I think that is probably going to be a worse experience.
