Tobacco is generally legal in the Empire.
Apart from, it seems, the Corporate controlled stations. When did this happen? Does it make sense?
... because using tobacco makes you a slave to a nasty habit. Isn't that obvious?
Do people still get cancer in the 34th century? If your slaves smoke, they are more likely to die of cancer, which costs their owner money.
...so what? The empire supports slavery.
Interesting observation.
Perhaps to mimic real life.
On my office campus, most of the corporations around will ban smoking on all their property. They will even ban it several hundred yards from a building, its outside for heaven's sake!
Really, it is all about reducing insurance premiums![]()
People in the Federation, probably not considering the average citizen's age. People in the Empire, probably depends on how much money they have. Nobles will have access to near Fed tech while pleebs will make due with what they can scrounge. Slaves and clones on the other hand are replaced by the ton when they wear out.Do people still get cancer in the 34th century?

The Empire is less technologically dependent than the Federation, choosing to keep and employ slaves for the work which machines would usually perform in other parts of the universe. The Empire is ]a proponent of human cloning, a topic which the other factions find abhorrent and have officially banned within their own jurisdictions.
Corporations just don't tolerate smoke breaks.
