Why do I have to restart after a tiny DC?

So, everyone knows that an internet connection can sometimes break down and cause a little disconnect (DC). Usually the problem is solved automatically after some seconds (in my case around 5-10). Unfortunately, ED kicks me out of the game after my connection has already been stable again.
It works like this: Flying happy with my ship through space. Getting interdicted. Fighting. *DC for 5-10 seconds* (At this point I do not recognize it as I am fighting and the NPCs still behave normal due to client controlled AI (should be server controlled btw. and not peer-to-peer as it apparently is.)) - Reconnect and won the fight. Want to jump into supercruise. "Fatal connection error, return to main menu." *Returned to main menu*

I see the start button is red and it simply won't go yellow until I fully close ED and restart it. Why is it like that? I am connected, I can do every other internet stuff like youtube or ED forums but WHY WON'T ED RECOGNIZE ME AGAIN?!

Jesus, these seconds are tremendously annoying.

EDIT: It won't even close when I press on "Save&Quit". I can basically do nothing in ED that requires a connection even though I am connected (again). So I can do NOTHING. ._.
A case for the Task Manager!

TL;DR: ED has to be restarted after DC and a reconnect, fix plz, ty.

Let me get this straight? You have bad internet connection and instead of going to your ISP to try and fix it you are telling frontier needs to fix the game?

:D:D

5 to 10 seconds is a fairly bad length of time for disconnection.
I would suggest you determine the route of your network issues as a first step.
There is very little that any software can do to compensate for this.

Everything is fine, it just happens sometimes. Thing is, why can't I just continue to play and have to restart the whole game?
And my connection is not the best, true. 16MB/s ._.
Still, it works with other games as well, why not with ED?

power cycle your router, if it still does it then make sure you dont have anything maxing your upload speed out, or a service using or your upload wink wink*, if it still DC then contact your ISP saying you have an intermittent connection, problem is at your end and not Frontiers end.

just saw this response

your connection is dropping packets, so if you connection drops out for 5-10 seconds in that time the connection between you and the server is terminated hence the DC, if you have virus's and or things being uploaded then yes you will also see lag and DC as the upload is what send the data to the server if that is interupted then you will get a DC.

Hope this Helps

Bro, do you even read?

His internet connection had a brief disconnect, the game put him back into main menu, but his connection was already back on. The game, however, simply did not recognize that and kept the start button red. So he had to completely restart the launcher, even though he was connected to the internet.

He is not complaining about the disconnect - but on the fact that the game does not recognize him being reconnected until it he exits and restarts it.

You can have 100/100 mb/s it means nothing if your connection breaks every now and then. I for one wouldn't stand for it.

Exactly this (thanks for telling it better than I could :p ).

And I can't do anything about the DCs (well I can and I did, but I still ahve to wait some months until my new connection is ready hehe).

IF the disconnect is causing you to obtain a new public facing IP, then the game would have to re-establish the network connection to the transaction server again; effectively re-logon. It is true that it may be possible to update the game to give you a menu option to re-establish this connection.

However it seems more logical to determine the cause of your disconnects in the first place to prevent it from interrupting your game play.
Have you tried enabling verbose logging to help nail down the issue?

Could you tell me what this is and how I could enable that? Thanks :)

Thank you!

EDIT/UPDATE: I can tell that the DC is not connected to ED itself, the whole connection dies for this short period of time and I am unable to do anything that requires an internet connection within this time frame.

However, I am now pining the adress as it stands in the link you've sent. (Good to know I have a ping of 36ms :D )

If you are getting frequent disconnects of 5-10 secs like you say, then you need to contact your ISP and get them to sort it.

Great stuff. Feel free to PM me with any details you don't wan't to share publicly (e.g. Your network log with a public facing IP)
I will make sure the information is passed on to the correct people.

Hopefully resolving this problem for you might help others too :)

I would agree with contacting your ISP and seeing if they can identify the drops in your connection.
