Why do they do this? (Platform jumping levels)

I'm currently playing through Doom Eternal.

I've got to this level where you're basically leaping over lava flows on platforms that sink. Nothing to shoot or anything. Just jumping from Platform to Platform, trying to figure out the sequence of jumps and boosts to get from HERE to THERE, without falling the lava.

I HATE levels like this. It's a bloody shooting game - why are you making me play through a non-shooting puzzle game? If I wanted to do that I'd play Portal or Mirror's Edge (or something like it) where this is actually done very well. In Doom, where they've added it into an FPS without any real care, it really isn't. But even if it was done well it's an unwelcome change of pace. Also, as there is no difficulty level possible (as the layout doesn't change) it leads to a lumpy difficulty curve.

What ducking foron decided in the middle of a FPS they're going to slap together a cod platformer for no real reason? You know the one level.. the ONE level everybody agreed was crap in Half Life? - it was the Xen platformer level.

Seriously, guys. Just quit it. Games are supposed to be fun. I'd rather finish a game in a few hours of playtime than spend an hour doing something unfun just to "get my money's worth" by sticking in a crap, repetitive filler in an otherwise excellent FPS.

Innovation for the sake of innovation. We got a taste of platforming in the last DooM, it wasn't bad but I had a feeling of things to come. DooM Ethernal has, as you said, way to much of this. Not what I would play DooM like games for.

Thx for the warning. I've always disliked platforming with a passion. I noticed an awful lot of it in Doom Eternal vids already. I can safely chalk this off my list I guess. I did a Doom 2016 PT recently until I got to one of the challenges where you need to hop left and right and reach a checkpoint in time. This very challenge is the embodiment of what I utterly despise - and I stopped the PT, too. Doom 2016 was mostly a very good game - I just didn't find the hell levels so super hot. And the prospect of bossfights was neither.

Agreed. Save, jump, fall, reload save.
Tedium some douchee incorporated to extend your "gaming experience" by an hour if you continually mess up.

Douchy exec: "We need another 10 minutes of gameplay, any ideas?"
Douchier dev: "Give me 1/2 hr, I'll take care of it."

Aside; I can't believe the above words are censored.
