Why do you like DB scout or explorer?

Hi,

I sold my vulture cause fighting in it was kinda boring. I bought viper and was having a blast with it. It makes big difference when you can switch between just lasers and lasers + multicannons, gives all the guns blazing feeling. Last night I tested DB Scout and it felt great before the first fight. Imperial eagle interdicted me and we went face to face. One pass and my shields were down and I was using one shield booster. That was when I started wondering why people like to use this ship in combat. It's nice to jump like a rabbit between systems but for me DBS never beats viper in combat.

Then I tried DB Explorer. Turn rate was not so bad cause I was expecting the worst based on other cmdr's comments. I went to hazardous RES site and was feeling lucky, that's why I iniated combat with dropship. I got it's hull down to 50% before my shields collapsed and I had to run but that was easier said than done. DB-X is slow :)

I didn't fell in love with either of the ships. Why do you like them?

I have a DBX for exploring (it's in the name ;)) and I do like it. It could do with one more internal so it can carry an extra fuel tank but other than that, it is cool. It is also has that so ugly it is beautiful look to it (see also AH64 Apache and A10 Thunderbolt)

Sold my Vulture for a DBX. I am fully aware it has very little cargo (8T), and it's no match for any competent fighter vessel. But the jump range, exploration opportunities - and in 2.0, room for an SRV - great fuel scooping, discovery scanners, decent beam laser + multicannons... I just really like it.

I like the DBX for exploring since it's a cheaper, albeit less capable alternative to the asp but I never tried it in battle. I like fighting more in fighting oriented ships such as the viper or the vulture.

I loved the scout for pure bounty hunting. Pretty quick, nimble, packs a decent punch. I ended up with a cobra though because it has stronger shields and more internal slots. Being the fastest ship in the game doesn't hurt either

Cockpit is also quite different than in other ships. It felt like I was sitting in helicopter cockpit, like in AH-64 sim.

The Viper is a nice zoom and boom combat ship. The DBS is an insane dogfighter. It depends how you prefer your combat.

The DBX is to slow for zoom and boom and not agile enough for dogfights. It has good weapons and weapon placement - it has to rely on hitting very hard the short moment the enemy is in its sight.
With 80% of the DBS agility and boost up to 390 m/s that thing would be wonderful.

DBS: best dogfighter of its size, no heat problems, almost no power problems. With military armor it can take a lot of beating after the shields dropped, with chaff the shields last longer.

DBX: no heat problems, very good jump range, nice ship for slow and save exploration, good for missions. Requires a lot of pip juggling in combat.

I use a DBX for smuggling but its fitted with a Pulse and two multi's and I found it quite capable and fun in fights, it has good hardpoint placement. You just have to pick your battles and like all ships its a lot better when its Class A everything.
Also I like the whole Apache look/feel of it

DBS is a great light fighter, and is also good for stealth tactics.

I'm not sure anybody likes the DBX for anything other than exploring. It has good hardpoints, but rubbish shields, agility and speed, so is pretty much a sitting duck. Out of all the ships I've tried (which is all of them, come to think of it), I found the DBX to be the weakest in combat apart from the trade ships. I didn't do any 'testing' per se, but just from my general anecdotal impression, it was terrible.

Scout will find niche in Trader/Smuggling. But as it stands, it is not so great trade vessel and terrible explorer ship.

I like the DBX. Flew 10k light years and back with it and my hull and modules were at 100% integrity. The Diamondbacks are really sturdy. They don't seem to be fitted for RES combat, but as multi role ships they're really great. And the DBX as an exploration vessel is just lovely. :)

I WANT to love them. I love the Grasshopper design. However, rubbish scoop and insufficient slots on the DBE, I always revert to one of my nearby Asps. DBS is just too tiny for anything meaningful for me.

Totally agree. Moving around the galaxy is great and I found combat to be pretty good for bounty hunting missions, seemed maneuverable enough to dogfight and stay out of too much trouble.
However I did take it to a CZ and got out by the skin of my teeth after getting descended upon

I visited Sag A* with a combat fitted DBX with zero problems.
I use a DBS for those 8t rares CGs and have a lot of fun.

No matter how nice the ship itself might be to fly, I just cannot get over how ugly the cockpit is, so I've never flown one for any length of time.

DBE is definetly no combat ship (even if cmdr's claim it gets better with FAOFF). i use it for salvaging/ shortrange exploration and longrange missions (smuggling), and prefer it above my Asp for character (e.g. an Asp easily outperforms it everywhere, only not for smuggling).

DBS - i can't follow you on your "i prefer the viper" (but each his own!). the DBS is much more manouverable, and has the same firepower (with slightly better hardpoint placements), furthermore it's faster, it has zero heat or powerproblems, it has an great total range... i'm coming from an eagle way back, and always had a problem making the viper really working for me... i take the DBS for haz/high RES bhing and CZ (if the vulture is boring). i use it for racing. the only thing it "lacks" is that you need to reoutfit for different jobs.
